Chapter 13

"Is this new?" Wesley asked curiously, taking the fabric of my skirt in his fingers.

"Huh?" I asked, looking up from my phone. "Oh, yeah I bought it last week when I went shopping with Marley and Nicole." I smiled.

"Why are you all dressed up?" Wesley frowned, taking in my fancy outfit.

I looked down at my clothes.

I was wearing black tights, a black skirt, and a sleeveless maroon shirt that had a high neckline.

I just shrugged, a smile crossing my face.

"I dunno, it's fun to make insignificant days like today fancy." I said happily.

My stomach flipped at the look of disappointment that Wesley tried to hide on his face.

Of course today wasn't insignificant... But Wesley couldn't know that I knew that.

It was December 2nd.

My spectacular boyfriend was seventeen.

"Insignificant huh?" Wesley raised his eyebrows at me.

"Yep." I shrugged, turning to face him. "Saturday, you know."

"Ah." Wesley frowned.

"But you know..." I trailed off, knowing that he was getting antsy. "There is literally nobody in the house right now..."

Wesley raised his eyebrows.

"So this insignificant day could totally get better with us making out?" I suggested with a grin, standing up from the couch and walking towards his bed.

"Not today, Grace." Wesley sighed, not standing up with me.

I frowned.

"Seriously?" I asked quietly.

"Yeah, seriously. Not in the mood." Wesley shook his head.

I frowned, sitting down on the edge of his bed.

I completely understood why he was being so uninterested, which sucked because it took all of the self control that I had to not tell him the truth.

In Wesley's world, his girlfriend forgot his birthday, his siblings were too busy to be seen around the house on his birthday, his mother was nowhere to be found, and his father didn't even bother to call.

Little did he know, that was all my orchestration. He'd find out later, but for now I had to let his day be shitty.

"Look why don't I just take you home." Wesley sighed, standing up.

My eyes widened.

"What?" I asked in shock. "Already?"

"Yeah, Grace, I'm just not having a good day." Wesley shook his head, walking towards the door.

"Wesley." I sighed, grabbing my jacket from the couch as I followed him out of the room. "Don't be like this."

"Don't tell me not to be like this." Wesley snapped as he disappeared down the stairs.

He grabbed the keys to the Jeep and left the house before I had time to pull my combat boots on.

He didn't say anything in the car, and I spent my time on my phone, texting the group chat that I had with Marley and Nicole.
