Chapter 17
"Grace! Wake up." Wesley said, softly shaking my shoulder.
"Hm?" I mumbled, sleepily pushing my hair away from my face.
"Come on, we're going on a hike with Mark and Nicole." Wesley said happily. "Get dressed."
I groaned as I sat up.
"What time is it?"
"Eight." Wesley replied. "You have ten minutes, we'll be in the kitchen."
Mark and Wesley left the room, leaving Nicole and I sleepy, disoriented, and annoyed.
"Ugh." Nicole groaned as she sleepily got out of bed.
I stifled a yawn as I followed her into the bathroom.
We brushed our teeth and washed our faces in silence.
I changed out of my pajamas into some jean shorts, running shoes, and a t-shirt from a swim meet a few years ago.
When I slid my phone into my back pocket, Marley was still sound asleep, her face pressed into the pillow and her hair everywhere.
"Come on." Nicole said, walking towards the door.
When we got down to the kitchen, Wesley and Mark were standing there with Henry and the six year old who I think was named Kelsey.
"Ready?" Wesley asked happily, wrapping his arm around my shoulders as he handed me a protein bar.
"A protein bar? That's all we get?" Nicole raised her eyebrows as she took one from Mark.
"You never eat breakfast." Mark laughed, pushing his hair back from his head. "But come on let's go I want to go hiking!"
"Are you alright? You're never up this early." Nicole laughed, giving him a weird look.
About fifteen minutes into the hike, Kelsey got too tired. She was too big for Henry to carry, so they decided to turn back around.
"We're so going to get lost." Nicole giggled as we took a the right fork in one of the paths.
"Not if we just keep taking the right forks." Mark replied, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
Nicole pulled away from him, a devilish look in her eyes as she backed up down a left fork.
"And what if we don't?" Nicole asked with a wink, beckoning for Mark to follow her.
"Oh hell yea." Mark muttered, jogging after her. "We'll catch up with you later!" He called over his shoulder to Wesley and I.
"Well that took longer than expected." Wesley laughed, linking his fingers with mine as we kept walking down the path.
"But now we can hang out alone." I grinned, bumping my shoulder against his.
"Hell yea." Wesley laughed, pressing a kiss to my cheek.
~*~*~
"This is the perfect week I was looking forward to." Wesley grinned, pulling me closer to him.
I felt a smile cross my face as I rested my head on his chest.
"I highly doubt life could get any better than this." I agreed, brushing my knee against his.
"I mean seriously. Not even a single cloud in the sky." Wesley laughed, pointing up at the sky.
"Because life is perfect." I said softly, looking up at his face.
