[14] Old faces and new wounds

The group had come up with a plan to trick the governor and his people, they were going to pack everything to make it look as though they had left. But when his people came in the were going to scare them with walkers, flash-bangs and then shoot them as they left.

Paige was going to be hiding in a guard tower, sniping the men as they ran from the scene.

Paige was excited for their brilliant plan but was still upset about losing someone she had grown close to, Merle. She didn't show how much his loss had affected her, not wanting to upset his brother anymore.

Paige walked over to Daryl to hand him some extra ammunition.

"Hey, here is some more just in case"

"You know, Merle never did nothing like that his whole life" Daryl told her, referring to his sacrifice

"He gave us a chance" Paige said, helping Daryl to his feet.

"Be safe, doctors off duty today" she told him with a smile

Daryl only rolled his eyes and let a small chuckle escape his lips.

"Doc, you be safe too"Daryl said to Paige as she started to walk away

She sent a small thumbs up to him and made her way to her father, sisters and Glenn.

"Be safe out there, all of you" They all hugged each other before going their separate ways

Paige sat in a guard tower, looking down at the road the trucks would soon venture on. It was nearly an hour before the rumbling of the trucks were heard, then she saw the man pull a grenade launcher out and aim it at the tower she currently stood in. She ran down the stairs as fast as she could but only made it to the middle of the stairs before the rock came down on her. She made sure to block her head and fortunately no debris fell upon her too hard.

Unfortunately, one came toppling down just to land on her ankle, she bit her bottom lip to suppress the scream of agony.

She pushed the rock off of her and assessed the damage, she would be needing some homemade crutches from Carl when this all ended.

She sat there for a while before she heard the trucks start to leave, stumbling down the stairs until she reached the door. As she reached the door, it was ripped open by Daryl.

"Doc! Are you okay?" He asked pulling her to her feet, she let out a painful sound and fell into his chest.

He picked her up bridal style and carried her to the courtyard.

"Paige! I was so scared" Maggie said as she brushed Paige's hair from her sweat soaked forehead.

"We did it" Paige said smiling at her sister

Maggie smiled at her sister, everyone else soon joining in.

Hershel soon joined the group and rushed to Paige's side.

"What happened?" He asked looking at her visibly swollen ankle.

"Some rubble fell on it; I think it's only a small fracture but I can't tell without an x-ray"

Hershel nodded his head and started to bandage it, careful not to hurt her.

A few members of the group had suggested that they go after the governor, Paige was going to stay and care for Judith.

Hours had passed and Paige was starting to worry when she heard the rumbling of Daryl's motorcycle. She laid Judith down in her crib and hobbled to the cell block entrance.

"What is going on?" Paige asked as Carl stomped past her

"They brought more people" Carl grumbled

Paige walked out of the cell block and stumbled into Daryl's side.
