Hobi stood leaning against the back wall, keenly aware of Izzy trying to pretend she was not watching him. Did she not remember all those nights they spent huddled in his bed or on her chair?
He knew her, knew how she blinked when she lied, how she talked too much when she felt guilty and oh how she blushed when she was thinking something she ought not think.
Like right now.
The rest of the meeting passed in a blur. With the New York team on zoom, she and Dae signed the papers amid cheers and pops of champagne on their end. Despite the time difference Olivia made sure to pull off a big celebration.
“ Fantastic!” she laughed on the large screen, “ Well done! We will celebrate now and I understand that you are going to party later. I have to confess, I am jealous! I am starting to regret sending you Izzy. I will have to think of an excuse to come over there. I'll call you later, before your party “ With that she waved and ended the call.
To everyone watching it seemed perfectly appropriate, playful banter between friends and business partners. But Izzy knew better and Hobi did too.
Liv was jealous and regretting not being there herself. And neither of them would bet against her just randomly appearing before this was over.
Izzy sighed and felt her shoulders slump. She loved Olivia. She was one of her best and oldest friends. But she was certain that the promised call this afternoon would end up with one or both of them mad or with hurt feelings. Why did it always have to be so complicated with her.
Hobi was thinking the same things as he made his way to the group gathering around Dae and Izabelle. Olivia had something on her mind besides Project Dandy and she was looking to cause mischief. By the frown on Izzy's face, she knew it too.
He stepped to her side just as Taehyung was finishing his congratulations. Dae gave Tae a quick hug and turned to link arms with Hoseok. She took Izzy's hand and gave it a quick squeeze.
“Here are the two we should be congratulating,” she said. “ Thanks to many hours of hard work we have a project here with real potential to be a global success!”
One more round of cheers and everyone drifted back to work, leaving Dae, Hobi, Izzy and Min YoonGi discussing some final details. As YoonGi gathered the papers and prepared to leave, Rege stepped into the group.
“ Thank you again YoonGi. We will see you tonight, “ Dae called, “ and of course, Miriam.”
“Of course, Miriam,” he replied, his smile hiding some secret. Izzy was sure of it.
Before she could think more about it, Dae was addressing her.
“Izabelle, Do you have anything else on your schedule today? I would love to have lunch but I have meetings until late afternoon,” she said.
