Izzy watched as the last of her bags were unloaded at the curb. The trip through check in and security was a blur.  She had pulled on a dark pair of glasses and her ear buds.

Olivia had appeared with Rege, late as usual, and looking a bit preoccupied.  It was easy for Izzy to ignore her.  What they needed to discuss had to be done in private.

As they boarded she traded her place with another for a seat away from Olivia and Rege and quickly set up all the privacy barriers.  She closed her eyes when the plane took off, refusing to watch as she left her heart behind.

Once in the air, she pulled a calendar from her bag and began to meticulously notate every day, ending at the date circled in red.  She reviewed and revised it until she began to nod off.  Finally the grief and exhaustion caught up with her and she slept.

Hobi stood at the wide windows of his office staring out into the clear afternoon sky.

It was a beautiful day.  The clouds were white and fluffy.  He could almost see Izzy looking out her window watching the city fall away from her.

He checked his watch and his shoulders dropped.  She was gone,  speeding away from him.

He looked down at his hands and cursed.

He lifted the bear he had clutched tightly while praying for some sign she had changed her mind, ready to hand it to her and kiss her and take them back home to his bed.

He stuffed the tattered plush back in his briefcase, cursing the whole time.

What a fool,” he said to himself.

Then he sat and pulled out his calendar, grateful for the detailed notes and tasks.  He was going to need to stay busy.

The days droned by in monotony or rushed by too quickly, ending in frustration over work not finished.

Hobi settled into a routine that was much like before, before the day that Izabelle Walker walked into his workroom and back into his life.

Getting back to "before" was not easy.  In fact it was made complicated by the continued work on Project Dandy.

Hobi saw Izzy in every detail of the samples they produced.

He changed the sleeves on one garment, the buttons on another because he knew Izabelle would have insisted on it.

Izabelle…..it was always Izabelle these days, never Izzy.   It was as if  stopping himself from thinking of her intimately as Izzy would keep him from missing her.

It was not working out that way, but he was trying.

He tried to prepare himself for the first virtual meeting after she left.  He told himself he was not disappointed when he was unable to find her among the designers and workers visible on the screen.

He told himself not to get excited when the door swung open 5 minutes late but his heart was pounding so hard he was afraid they could hear it in New York.

He blew out a hard breath when Olivia and Rege appeared and took seats at the head of the table.

He was silent, his face schooled in a pleasant mask as Olivia rattled on about how good he looked and how much she missed him.

“ Hobi! You must come visit! The end of this project is the perfect excuse! Come to New York,” she pouted, clearly waiting for him to jump at the chance.

His heart beat harder in his chest, if thatvwas possible.  His only thought was that he could see Izzy again.
