For YoonGi's story, unbound

“ What did you need?” she asked softly, breaking into his thoughts.

The whiskey and mental fatigue were catching up with him. She was asking him what he needed and all he could think about were the dozens of ways he needed and wanted her.

His mind drifted to picking her up and sitting her on his desk and…

She was staring at him and through the fog of fatigue and lust he realized he was supposed to be doing something other than what he was doing right now.

Right! He needed to remember what lie he told her to get her down her.

Files! That’s right. He told her he needed files. But he didn’t need them and now she was looking at him, waiting for him to say something that made sense.

“I found it,” he mumbled. “I found what I needed.”

“I see,” she said and looking at her YoonGi was afraid she saw exactly.  She knew him too well.

Screw it,” He thought, “nothing to loose now!”

I have it. I’m all done for now,” he told her “ I’m sorry for making you come back here. Let me make it up to you by buying you dinner.”

Mimi smiled and gently told him “I’m sorry YoonGi. I already have plans.  We are trying a new dance class at Hobi’s studio and then are having girl’s night.”

She watched him calculating a way to get her to change her mind.  She frowned and shook her head at him, silently discouraging him.

“I’ll go with you!” He offered, confident in his offer.

MiMi tried hard not to laugh.  Never in her wildest dreams  could she imagine Min YoonGi in the midst of an aerial silks class!

“No YoonGi,” she said gently, “ tonight we are catching the last half of the youngest girl’s class and the kids are very…..” She paused, trying to be diplomatic, “….challenging.  I know you would not enjoy it and I don’t think a grumpy uncle would help the girls pay more attention in class.”

“Grumpy Uncle!” He said.

Oh Lord, he seems truly offended, she thought.

“I am not a “ grumpy uncle!” He growled.

Just then he caught his reflection in the mirrored tiles of the bar.  His hair was ruffled from the long day and his scowl had drawn a deep crease between his eyes.  He sighed in defeat. He would probably look scary as hell to a 6-year-old.  He cursed at that.

“OK, dinner then.  I’ll wait down in the café for you and we’ll grab a late supper, “he offered.

Mimi sighed.  She hated to turn him down.  To be honest, she had missed him this week.  But tonight was important.

“I am truly sorry,” she said and he knew she meant it. “We have been planning this for a while.  If this takes off Hoseok will be adding adult classes for his studio. Plus Dae even has a special meal being brought in for us “

“She would,” YoonGi said under his breath, feeling disgruntled at SongDae for the first time he could ever remember.

“Pardon?” Miriam asked, challenging him to repeat it.

“That’s good!” He said. Whether MiMi bought it or not, she seemed to have pity on him.

“I am sorry about tonight.  Today was a big win for you.  I want to hear all about it! I…..” She hesitated before the rest spilled out in a rush. “I missed you this week.  I don’t like you being away so much.”

Whether she knew how her words would strike him or not, he did not care. He soaked his parched heart in them.

“Let’s have brunch on Sunday,” she offered.

He stared at her for just a moment.  This was a new step for them and he wanted it.

“You promise?” he asked, fear of her rejection, of her changing her mind crept it.

“I promise!” she vowed, laughing up at him.

Suddenly he felt the weight of  exhaustion and the liquor lifting as Miriam eased away the stress that had held him so tightly coiled.

She saw it, was aware of the moment it began to happen. She stepped toward him.

“Walk me down to the car,” she asked.” I will call your driver to take you home.”

She took the whiskey glass from his hands and he sighed as her fingers brushed his.

She reached for his coat and helped him shrug into it, talking the whole time, yet fully aware of the tension that drained from him as she took a long moment to carefully and tenderly smooth the jacket over his weary shoulders.

He nodded, following her lead now without a word.

As they waited for the elevator, she told him she would call and have a meal ready for the driver to pick up on the way home.

He smiled at her as she made him promise to eat and then go directly to bed.

He stepped into the elevator and used the ride as an excuse to stand just a bit too close.  He took deep breaths of her all the way to the ground floor.

This was not the way he planned things to go this evening, but she had taken the time for him.

She had given him what he needed. She had brought him to that place of peace only she could.  He sighed a weary sigh and leaned into her.

He was so very tired.  He knew that now he would stumble home, eat 2 bites of food because he promised her he would and then he would give in to the exhaustion. His last thoughts before sleep would be of her.

MiMi was aware that beside her YoonGi was winding down. She could tell he would sleep and that eased her mind a bit.

His driver was waiting on him when the exited the elevator  YoonGi walked Miriam to her car and saw her safely on her way before he sank into the back of his car.

He would be ok for tonight. She made sure of it. As he rode in silence on the way to his home, his thoughts drifted to how thankful he was for her.

She was such a part of him now, but it was still too easy to remember the time before her, a time when he had no one to help him keep the darkness at bay.
