She closed the door and sunk against it, more shaken by his words than she would ever let him see.
She felt and understood the hurt beneath them and she felt a twinge of guilt for that.
But she also feared his words held an edge of truth to them. They were not idle threats, on the contrary. She sat and began to worry. Had her personal decisions and weakness endangered the hard work they had done?
She thought of Hobi with her emotions a total riot of confusion. After a time of hard consideration about the man and everything she knew about him, she knew he would never cross the line between “them” and work.
But she did renew her decision to focus on her job and leave the feelings she had for him firmly in the memories of last night. They had created a good work environment between the teams and their friendship had been rekindled. They were both adults and everything else would be locked away.
She told herself that as she noted the information in the text from Rege and pulled the sketches and lists for the meeting later.
She nodded, assuring herself that it was normal to work like that. She had done it with Rege for two years and they had not had a problem until he became jealous.
This would work. It would be fine, she assured herself, even as a memory of Hobi’s soft kisses caused a flush to caress her body.
Fine, it would be fine.
She discovered she was right that evening. After a short nap and another shower she spent several hours with her team.
The work was productive and the mood fun as they sketched and ate and prepared for the next step in the process.
Izzy felt happier than she had in years. The work flowed from her and her brain seemed crammed with new ideas.
They worked until late and she fell into bed exhausted, the night before catching up with her. She fell asleep with a smile thinking of something Hobi had said. She was determined to make this work.
She was at a drawing table surrounded by designers when Hobi breezed in the next morning. Most of them had been there early, the break of the party and weekend having renewed their creative spirits.
Hobi came into the room and was able to watch unnoticed for several minutes.
He found her immediately, her head bowed over an illustration, one member of her team reaching over her shoulder to make suggestions, Lyra sketching right along side her.
He needed this time. He needed to chase away the thoughts of her arching into him, calling his name, sleeping on his chest.
He stepped forward, noting every detail of her, vibrant and alive in the workroom. This was her element and she deserved his respect for her work and abilities. The personal gifts she had given him were just that, private and tucked away for him alone.
