The next morning Liv slipped into the bleachers at the main tennis court to watch Hobi's “lesson”. He was really very good. She decided it was actually practice drills with his coach rather than lessons. She enjoyed watching him.He was always so graceful. Izzy said he was a dancer and watching his smooth swing and complex footwork that became evident.
She watched the muscles in his thighs bunch as he scrambled into position for a backhand. She admired his biceps and forearms as he served.
His back was broad and muscled. And, to be perfectly honest, she was a fan of his ass in those tennis shorts. She watched until the end of the lesson, determined not to get distracted as they played.
She walked up to him as he was wiping the sweat from his face and hair. He looked so good sweaty and disheveled, she decided she had already failed at the “no distraction" plan.
He looked up to see Olivia crossing the court, her tennis whites complementing her curves, her long legs toned and tanned. He marveled again at how really stunning she was.
“ Ready?” she asked, grinning at him.
“ aghhhh…..can I catch my breath?” he asked, but he was already striding into place.
The first several shots she could tell he was taking it easy on her. She finally grew tired and drilled a serve right at him. He yelped in surprise and she gave him a wave.
“ Ready?” she asked again, and this time she watched his face transform as he took up the challenge.
Hobi was truly surprised by her skill. For someone who was challenged walking across the room, Liv was deceptively athletic.
He admired how she moved, the supple strength of her body. By the time they were finished they were both drenched in sweat and glowing from the exertion.
Hobi reached to wipe a drop of sweat rolling down her face and he thought how very beautiful her natural look was.
The flush of her skin was pink and healthy and made him think how she would look after she had reached climax in his arms. He blinked at that thought, taken by surprise by it. But once there it lingered.
“ I am starving,” she said as they gathered their things, “ And I definitely need a shower.”
That image sent his brain in a whole new direction. He needed to snap out of it.
He mumbled something as he checked the time on his phone.
“ 10:45,” he announced.
“Let's go to the dorms and meet up in an hour and grab some lunch,” she suggested. “ Let’s just get in the car and drive until we find a place we like!”
He looked into her face, eyes sparkling with excitement and he could not think of a single reason to refuse.
“ An hour! Let's go!” he said.
An hour later he was leaning against a tree in front of her dorm, fresh and beautiful in shorts and a button down. His hair was still the tiniest bit damp from the shower as he ran his hands through it. He was nervous. That was crazy! Why would he be nervous?
Then he looked up and found his answer. Olivia was walking toward him in a sweet sundress, her hair in ruffled in the breeze and her oversized sunglasses perched on the end of her adorable nose. She hurried her steps when she saw him and greeted him with a long hug.
“ How are you so handsome!! All the time! Every time!” she laughed.
He kissed her check and told her to hush, but he slung his arm around her shoulder as they walked to the car. She handed him her keys and he raised his brow, she simply said ,” Please,”
The head tilt, the little pout, he was gone.
He opened her door and helped her in and slid in the driver’s seat. She reached across him and pushed a series of buttons and the roof slid neatly back and away. She handed him a pair of sunglasses and he tried them on.
He had to admit the man in the mirror pulling off in a convertible with this beautiful woman next to him looked very happy.
They found the “ old road", the four lane now designed a “ Scenic Path" by the state. They pointed and laughed at things they saw or rode in contented silence.
Somewhere along the way he reached for her hand and found it fit his perfectly. Before long they saw a billboard for a “ retro diner". That easily settled their lunch plans.
After they eaten their fill of greasy burgers and shakes they lingered and talked and lost track of time. As the afternoon shadows lengthened she took his hand across the table and drew a deep breath.
“ Let’s go to the lake,” she suggested.
“The Lake" was a popular weekend spot for college kids. It had full time homes and weekend rentals. It was 2 hours from the college and had some sort of festival planned every weekend.
Hobi checked the sun and then his phone.
“ I am not really sure how far it is from here, but surely it will be dark by the time we get there,” he reasoned.
“ We will be there by sunset,” she told him. At his surprised look she continued.
“My family has a small lake house. There is a store near here. We can pick up what we need. I know my brother has some trunks there, or we can grab some at the store. We could also pick out some liquor there. It will be ok since we won’t drive tonight. Tomorrow I have friends who are taking the boat out and there is a jazz festival and fireworks tomorrow night,” she waited expectantly for his answer.
He nodded, but he was also aware of the things she was silently offering.
“ Olivia….” He started.
“ It's ok…no big plans or expectations. Just us, having some fun,” she answered.
“ It sounds like lots of fun. Why don’t we head back for tonight and wait until tomorrow? We can wait on Izzy and all go together,” he offered.
Liv took a minute, then met his gaze again, her face serious.
“Izzy won’t be back tomorrow morning. She will want to stay with her boyfriend as long as she can. Besides, she doesn’t really like the lake, ” she told him softly.Hobi felt foolish, but his chest hurt like he had been kicked.
“ Boyfriend? Izzy has a boyfriend?” he asked.
“ Yes, Blake….Blaine…something like that, High school sweethearts. She won’t admit it if you ask.. She says she goes home to see her family, but I think it is to see him,” Olivia confided.
Hobi felt hollow. All the afternoons they had spent talking Izzy had never mentioned a boy back home. Hobi needed a minute to filter his emotions but Liv did not pick up on that.
“ The Lake Hobi! Let's go! If we hurry we can stop and pick up the things and watch the sunset on the dock!” she coaxed.
Suddenly that sounded like the exact thing to do.
