Hobi could tell Dae was near the end of the meeting. He returned to stand behind her, to finish the last few minutes of the collaboration that had been the dream of the three of them all those years ago.
It was already a success. He could tell it would be very profitable and would open new avenues to both companies.
It was over.
He nodded and pretended to join in the rounds of congratulations. He made half hearted responses to invitations for launches or a dozen other post production events. In truth his mind was already back at his desk tackling the next task on his list.
He said “ goodbye” to Olivia, turning away from the sparkle of tears in her eyes, feeling no sense of loss or regret, not for parting with her.
Olivia noted how quickly he turned away. She waited in vain for him to stop one more time before he left the room, to make one more promise and give her one more smile.
She felt an unfamiliar guilt creep over her as she watched him leave. She had loved him so, more than she had loved any other during that time.
She had the uneasy feeling she had taken something from him, but she really couldn’t pin it down. She shook those thoughts off. He had made it clear the job was finished and so was he.
“ It was nice working with him,” she thought as she handed the stack of papers to Rege. Looking into the handsome face of her assistant she had not one more thought of Hobi.
She nodded to Rege and asked him to take her to lunch. He was the only man her heart sparked for these days. She had finally found her own love.
They left the room and Rege turned off the lights, plunging the room into darkness.
On the table were stacks of Izzy’s drawings and designs, forgotten now that they had been used and changed and transformed into the final project. Used then forgotten, much like Izzy herself.

Hobi found ways to be busy. He gladly stepped back into his position as Dae’s director of operations.
He thanked her for the opportunity to be a project manager but told her he was satisfied being back behind his desk.
Dae thanked him and kept her thoughts about that decision to herself. Time would be kind to him, she was sure of it.
NamJoon restarted poker night and Hobi went every week. Jimin or YoonGi would make sure he was there. At first, he balked, accusing Tae of setting up the gatherings to babysit him and Tae flatly denied it.
Then as the weeks wore on he began to see that the men were gathering in part because the ladies had left them alone on Tuesday nights.
Dae, Lyra and Sky had all fallen in love with Hobi’s dancers and became fiercely devoted to Mrs. Kim. They had even coaxed MiMi into helping several nights. They each took an age group and every week fitted costumes and played with hairstyles and stage make up.
Their partners fell in love all over again as each woman can home with shining eyes about something a child had said or a problem a teen had shared.
“This time has been really good for Lyra,” JK said one night, pride ringing in his words. “ You know, she trained as a professional dancer! Thank you Hobi for letting her help with the classes. “
Later that evening JK confided to Hobi that Lyra had counseled the young teens about their safety and choices of career.
“She really feels empowered helping them. I just wanted you to know,“ he said, clearly touched and brimming with pride in his Lyra.
“ She is really great with them JK, I am glad she found a home there,” Hobi replied.
Jin and Tae also shared how happy their partners were after working at the studio.
Jin caught him alone one night and confided in his friend.
“Dae has this hum about her when she comes home sometimes Hobi. There is this one little girl in particular who has stolen her heart,” Jin said.
Hobi was taken at the look on Jin’s face. He could picture Dae excitedly coming in and sharing what the kids had done that night. In fact, she had shared the same excitement with him several mornings.
“ She’ll make a great mother,” Jin said softly, staring down into his whiskey.
“ Jin?” Hobi asked, a little too loudly.
His friend looked at him and laughed at the surprise on his face.
“Someday, Hobi. Someday,” Jin responded with a lift of his glass in a toast.
“And you’ll make a great father,” Hobi responded with a lift of his own glass.
“ Someday,” Jin responded, Hobi clearly catching the wistful tone of his voice.
Jin was changing. They all were. They were growing older and finding life partners and apparently thinking about babies.
It made Hobi toss and turn that night, knowing he wanted those same things, only he was not sure if his chance, his choice, had literally flown out of his reach.

A short, but important chapter tonight. Change seems to be in the air. We are nearing the end, and as always I do not want to let this story go 😢 I also worry that I have not started the next. Maybe tomorrow will be a writing day!
