After a while I heard the bell for second lesson go I realized I'd been sat down in this corridor all lunch. I quickly got up and headed back towards the canteen, to my dismay Leo and Peace weren't here, I decided to go to my locker to get my biology book.
As I went to open my locker I completely crushed the handle, shocked I let go and the door fell to the floor making a loud crash. I looked up in horror as I realized what just happened, Leo walked round the corner and thought someone else had done this to my locker. "Wow, what happened, who did this?" He asked rather shocked. I blinked at him and then spoke "me, it just came off", Leo looked at me confused, he picked up the locker door and said," but the handle is completely crushed, how did you manage to do that?". Honestly I didn't know myself I just shrugged, he told me how sorry he was but he had to get going to Geography, leaving me with the broken handle.
That was weird and did I really do that, were the only things that ran through my head. Coming back to reality I grabbed my biology book, placed my locker door in the bin and sighed. Heading towards the janitors office I told him about the dodgy door and he told me he'd replace it in no time, looking over at the clock on the wall I realized I was 25 minutes late to biology, great!
Jogging down the halls I hesitated when I approached the door to biology, taking a deep breath I opened the door and my teacher stood there with a deadly look. "Sorry I'm late" I exclaimed before he could scold me, "make up for the time lost at the end Miss Whitely" was all he said before turning back to the board to explain more about the human body. Slumming into a seat in the corner of the room, I didn't dare to look at anyone, not wanting to engage into contact with people.
Once the lesson finished I remained seated waiting for my 'you must always be on time lecture', but to my surprise he spat "You think you're better than everyone in this room don't you Miss Whitely?". Taken back I say "not one bit sir", he laughed sarcastically and said, "just because you don't have a pendent doesn't make you special Miss Whitely. you don't get special treatment like coming in later than everyone", offended I looked at him in complete shock. How dare he say things like this to me, he finally spat "people like you don't belong here" and then told me to leave.
I felt traumatized after what I just went through, my whole body went numb, I wanted to cry, I quickly got up out of my seat and exited the room.
I ran at the speed of light down the corridor and out the main doors, I never wanted to be in my room so much, but right now I needed my room to be left alone. My whole body came to a stop at a park bench and as I looked back on the path I walked down. I realized I had walked at a speed that wasn't possible, shocked I think back about what happened with my locker, am I human? Forbidding doubt ran through my mind, I needed to speak with my mother about this, surely this isn't normal? Was I normal? Oh no, walking home I reached my drive. Living in Rhode Island had its advantages I mean the weather was always nice but it did rain a lot.
Opening my front door, I discovered my mother was in the living room and my father was at work, he was a lawyer, so we didn't see much of my father. My mother noticed the look on my face and asked me what was wrong almost immediately. I sat down next to her in our living room, like our kitchen the living room was bright. We had a huge window which looked out into the drive at the front of the house, the white sofa was in a circle dome, which had a wooden circular coffee table in front of it, with tea cup mats on it. Picking up one of the black cushions as I sit beside my mother on the sofa I questioned her on if I had any kind of powers. At first she was silent she wouldn't even look at me, then she slowly stared at me into my hazel eyes and nodded, terror ran through my body, what am I going to do I thought?
My mother told me to follow her as we walked down the hallway and up the first flight of stairs, we entered my mother and fathers room. It was really big, one wall was just a window, the television hung from the ceiling above the bottom of the bed. I sat down on the bed whilst my mother grabbed a box out of her wardrobe, she sat next to me and told me whenever I was ready to open the box. Eager I slowly peered my eyes into the box, lifting the lid I reviled a broken heart pendent, confused I asked my mothers who's it was, she just looked at me, realization hit me, it was mine...
"Why's it broken?" I asked my mother confused, she said calmly "your powers destroyed it, you were so rare that when you were born you was born without it, it came out in your hand", I nodded my head, trying to take in what she had just told me. She spoke again slowly, "they told me once I shown you this you would have to go live with them so you can understand and develop your powers more", a single tear ran down her face. I was confused "who did?" I asked rather interested, "you'll find out in all good time" she spoke finally before getting up and putting the box back.
"Go and pack your stuff and wait for me at the front door" was all she said before she left.
