the concept of superposition of waves sometimes talks about what happens when two identical waves collide with one another.
two waves with the same amplitude and velocity travel along the same path in opposite directions and then one of two scenarios follow.
either their amplitude increases to twice its size.
or their amplitude goes to zero.
in other words, it's double or nothing. they can either reach their highest highs or their lowest lows.
it is simply a matter of whether they collide at the right time.

exhilarating.
that was how you would describe your intelligence.
it was exhilarating to walk into a room knowing you were superior to everyone else in it.
your money might've been the selling point of your being but you adored your intelligence and your memory.
you did not like working hard and you didn't really have to either.
you breezed through high school and your bachelor's degree was shining in your hands as you got off the stage at your graduation at the university of tokyo.
your genius, however, did not have a wow factor. you were not an up and comer. you were simply doing the bare minimum. doing well at college was a stepping stone for the actual reason you were put on this earth.
to run the family business. to make it more successful than it already was.
because you belonged to the sakusa family, the founders and owners of the biggest multinational conglomerate in the country.
the sakusa family corporation dealt in a diverse amount of fields, including petrochemicals, fashion, automotive and mass media.
the name meant wealth and power. and as the youngest representative of that name, no less than perfect was expected of you.
having grown up under the weight of that pristine name, it was the norm to be ideal.
your mother was the chairman and CEO of the enterprise.
she had inherited it from her father in lieu of his untimely death when she was only twenty six, and she had handled the role with grace. it brought loads of criticism to her in its initial years, but she powered through.
she had tripled the valuation of the conglomerate in the years to come and now enjoyed her title as japan's richest woman and the only chairwoman of the top ten chairs in the country.
mayumi sakusa was an icon. an inspiration. and you had grown up watching her be put on a pedestal every minute of everyday.
but your mother was not a kind woman. she was sharp, picky and highly opinionated. seasoned to pinpoint every flaw that ever existed before her eyes.
she demanded perfection.
she gave people one strike. maybe three strikes to her children out of lenience. she wouldn't really stop loving you if you surpassed that. she'd merely stop relying on you for anything.
you were the only one of her three children that had somewhat met all of her expectations. you were brilliant and she thought it was morally wrong to have a favourite, but you were her favourite.
both of your older siblings were past their three strikes and neither showed any interest in the business field.
and mayumi did not do anything extreme. she supported their endeavours financially and did not cut them off from the money they were entitled to.
