the twins' birthday had been an important event on the calendar for all the years they'd been on this earth.
they weren't stingy and they never held back. in fact, even when atsumu was in college abroad, the one night he'd inevitably end up in japan was the night of his birthday.
it was the one night the twins would set aside their differences and enjoy their day and pretend that they hadn't grown apart in their 20s.
anyway, the same day was now approaching quickly and neither of the twins had really objected to throwing a party together. so they had people working on it.
it was going to be an evening affair that went on till the latest hours of the night. the guest list would obviously be very exclusive too, uncompromising on booze and food.
and the venue was to be the family yacht. about thirty guests and a few plus ones.
it would probably be a nice breather for the twins after the mountains of work they'd been buried in since they got back from their respective trips.
atsumu had figured out his twin's game plan. he was using you to obtain some kind of info about their rivals. he just didn't know whether you were gullible or not.
osamu missed you.
both of you hadn't met since the trip and had only texted from time to time. he'd texted you at work but had only received radio silence in response.
"hi samu", his dad waved from the living room when he entered the house, "where's your brother?"
osamu only shrugged, walking over and collapsing next to the old man on the couch. "how are you feeling?"
"you don't have to ask me that everyday", takashi snorted, shaking his head, "but i have to talk to you"
"hmm?", he raised his eyebrows, sitting up so he could pay attention
"look, osamu", he began carefully, "you're turning 28 in a few days. and... i really need you to start thinking about marriage."
osamu opened his mouth to say something and then closed it again. "i mean..."
"your relationship with shirofuku's daughter ended because she wasn't ready to get married, right?", takashi seemed like he had it all planned out, which really agitated osamu.
"...yeah", he slowly nodded, not liking where this was going.
"well, now she's ready", his father smiled, "i spoke to her parents and-"
"you spoke to her parents?", he cut him off, his eyes widening, "when? why?"
"don't be dramatic, they're friends of mine", takashi waved him off, "anyway, they said she agrees"
"is this because of what i asked you the other day?", osamu questioned
"oh no of course not", he shook his head, "i'm not trying to trap you. it's just a prospective choice. and yukie-chan is a smart girl."
osamu sighed heavily.
a few months ago, before you, he would've seriously considered it. but now it just felt terribly wrong.
"just talk to her", his dad pacified him, "i'll be happy to see you get married before i'm... gone"
"dad don't talk like that", osamu pleaded, "you'll be okay"
both of them knew he wouldn't be okay. takashi miya was dying inevitably.
and maybe that conversation was the whole reason you received a text from osamu that night. while you were actively avoiding him.
