there was a wrist wrapped around your free, ill intentioned, unattached hand.

tightly. in a no-nonsense kind of manner.

"don't do it"

with a no-nonsense voice to match. undoubtedly calm, with a scope of being playful and relaxed when the situation suited it.

a voice which you thought sounded familiar somewhere inside you, but which your brain was too overwhelmed to place.

you ruled out possibilities the best you could.

it wasn't the voice of a woman. and it was not shinsuke or kiyoomi or the love of your life who never really loved you back.

it was not the other miya. it was not aran or even rintarou suna like you found yourself somehow hoping it would be. it wasn't someone from college.

"let go", your vision was blurred and your will was stubborn but the man behind you didn't budge.

"i can't", he denied you, cautiously moving closer to your shaking frame.

tears rolled down your face because his warmth did nothing to fix the gaping hollowness inside you. the absolutely hopeless shell that you had become.

it was easy for some stranger to fly in like a knight in shining armour, acting as if they knew even an iota of your misery. the series of events that had brought you to the conclusion that you would be better off underwater, not breathing.

"please let go", you requested, because you were exhausted, and his other hand was holding your shoulder now. tightly.

"if you jump, i'll just have to jump in after you", he whispered.

the man behind you wasn't a stranger. you knew that much. but he wasn't someone dear enough to you that you'd place him immediately.

and then you realised-

"did you just fucking quote titanic to me?", you turned your head to your side, chest heaving full of frustration

"did i?", he breathed, in a tone that was trying not to sound amused, "fuck, i did. sorry."

your gaze cleared steadily and just as steadily, the not-so-stranger's hold on you tightened. his hand around your wrist was now holding your arm, keeping you nearly fixed against the railing.

"you did it on purpose", you accused, trying to find the energy to face him but failing because the last thing you needed was someone referencing star crossed lovers- seeing as your life had become a testament to romeo and juliet except you were the only one that wanted to die.

"i meant it", he said calmly, "i would jump in after you"

"you don't even know why i'm-"

"it's not an option, sakusa-san", he whispered gently, confirming the notion that you were not a stranger to him either, "no matter what it is, this isn't the answer. it won't make the pain go away."

you were trembling in his hold, realising that you hadn't even once attempted to break free.

and you suddenly felt ridiculous somehow. the gravity of what you were going to do sunk in, as one of your tears fell from your eye, disappearing on its way towards the sea where you wanted to disappear.

"let me help you back over", the man behind you requested, hoping to successfully talk you down from making a decision you'd regret.

"who even are you?", you sniffed but didn't decline his offer so he slowly turned you around to face him.
