Aniya's POV.
I finally get back from talking with my lawyer, but my mind would not stop thinking of Mariah. And why she was in Page's car of all people. But I do believe her reasoning though. However, a further part of me doesn't. I don't know...
Me and Grace are almost through with this whole divorce thing. I just have to sign the papers her lawyer is giving her in about a week. I'm so tired, and stressed out. I just want to spend time with Mariah. I miss her so much, I'm in pain. And I feel so lonely all the time. And she's been acting really strange. The last thing I need is this. Really, I'm losing my mind.
And on top of my whole divorce, I just need some comfort. I'm going to call her.
The phone rings for a while, but then she finally picks up which I thought was slightly strange. She usually picks up right away.
"Hey,'' she says slightly out of breath.
"Hey. Why are you breathing so heavy?''
"I uh,'' she hesitates. "I just went for a run a couple of minutes ago. I just got back.''
"A run? So unlike you...'' I laugh.
"Yea...'' she says, unamused. "Is there anything you needed?'' She says in a quickened voice.
"Yea, uhm. I- I miss you like crazy, Mariah. I really can't stop thinking about you. And I'm so lonely and I'm overall tired. Please, can you come over? Like I said, I miss you so much. And being able to just hug you again will truly make my day. Please? I need you."
There's a moment of silence for a good minute. I hear a door shut on her end of the line, and I wait for her response. "Aniya... I..." she inhales sharply. "I miss you too, really. But now? I really can't. And I'm really sorry. About everything. About you, and your wife, and overall everything. I can't go out right now, but I promise you, we'll see each other soon. I promise, okay?''
Tears build up in my eyes. "Okay. I love you okay?"
"I-" she hesitated. "I love you too. But listen, I have to go. I'll call you later.'' Before I could say goodbye, she hung up. It was very strange... but I just brushed it off.
Fast forward about a week. Me and Mariah are finally starting to spend more time with each other. I feel as if everything had went back to normal.
I feel so much more happy.
