Mariah's POV.
As I finish up talking to Nora, I turn to Aniya and raise my eyebrows for a second, and smile a little. She smiles back. As I go to sit down, Aniya stands up making her way to the front of the class room.
"Okay class, for your assignment today, you'll be able to work with at least 2 to 3 people in a group. I'm trusting you guys to pick yourselves. I'll give you a minute."
As I'm staring at her while she's done talking, I see her eyes focused on something else. Or perhaps, someone.
I look behind me to see who or what's she's staring at. To my surprise, it was Nora. I see Nora also staring back at her, smiling and blushing.
I clutch my fist for some reason. I wasn't so sure on why Aniya was staring at Nora. And Nora, I'm pretty sure she had a girlfriend. So giving me another thing to be unsure about, was her giving googly eyes to Aniya, when she's taken.
She returns back to her desk, grabs a stack of papers, then goes back to the front of the classroom.
Nora grabs my attention then asks if we can be partners.
"Yea," I mouth giving a thumbs up with a small smile.
"Okay, so you guys are going to get these papers, and fill out some research about the stuff on the paper. Do I have any volunteers to help pass these out?"
Before I could even raise my hand, she had already picked Nora.
"Nora. Thank you." Aniya says, giving her the same look Nora gave her.
I know it's a weird thing to get jealous of, but I couldn't help myself.
As Aniya sets down my paper I stop her and look up at her. "What are you doing?" I ask.
"What do you mean? I'm giving you a paper." She says, laughing, wondering what I was talking about.
"Can we talk after class?" I whispered.
"Of course..." She says, quietly, then walks off.
Nora looks at me with an odd smile on her face. I force a smile back, then when she looks away, I quickly drop it.
As soon as their done passing out the papers, Nora brings the extras to her. She places them into Aniya's hand, but then Aniya puts her hand on hers, thanking her once more.
"Thank you for helping. Really appreciate it." She says smiling widely with those perfect, white teeth of hers.
"Of course," Nora says locking her eyes into Aniya's "anything." Then with that, she goes to her seat.
It was just pieces of paper Jesus.
After everyone gets to a point to stop, the bell rings. As I'm seeing everyone leave, I spot one last person.
"Hi Nora, how can I help you?" Aniya says, giving her, 'a look'.
"Oh, hi Mrs Parker. I uh, I was wondering if maybe I could come here after school and ask you a couple questions about the assignment? I'm a little confused."
"Why can't you ask them now?" I asked, knowing I should've kept my mouth shut.
Nora turned to me, looking confused. "Sorry?"
"I'm sorry. It just came out."
"Look, why don't we talk about this tomorrow, Nora, yea?" Aniya says, breaking the obvious tension.
"Yea." She says, still looking toward me. "Sure. I'll see you tomorrow, Mariah."
I smile watching Nora as she walks out. When she finally leaves, my smile fades turning to Aniya.
"What was that?" I asked.
"I'm not sure what you're talking about. But I'd rather you not talk." She says while smiling then starts to kiss me. As much as I liked it, I pull away.
"Hey... is everything alright?" She asked, worried.
"You have feelings for Nora. Don't you?"
"Excuse me?" She says, with her eyebrows narrowed.
"Don't. I saw the way you looked at her during class. You looked at her the way you look at me. Smiling, with your eyes locked on her, the physical touch. Like I'm so confused. Do you not feel anything with me anymore? Is that was it is?"
She looked at me with her eyebrows down turned. It looked like she was struggling to speak.
"Are you serious right now, Mariah?" She finally spat out. "Are you seriously jealous?"
"Jealous?" I say walking backwards slightly. "You didn't even answer my question, Aniya."
Okay I was being overdramatic, and I was really jealous. But not just anyone was going to admit that. Right?
"Why are you acting like this? That's my question." She says as she puts up her arms from the sides of her, to cross them.
"Okay, what if I am jealous? So what? I was just asking a question that you never answered."
She scoffed. "Fine. Maybe I do find her a little pretty, okay? But that's it. I promise. The only woman I love is you."
Love?
Did she just say she loved me? 'But what about Grace?' I thought.
What about her.
"You... you love me?" I stuttered, smiling.
Her face suddenly turned red with a shocked expression. "Oh my god. Did i just say that? Oh my god. I'm so sorry I didn't me-"
I stop her by giving her a passionate kiss.
I then pull away from her lips."I love you too." Then, I feel her body melt of relief, as she hugs me.
