The cafe smelled of strawberries, coffee creamer, and cat hair, and Bdubs took it all in with a deep breath, leaving behind a smile on his face.
The moment Bdubs and Doc discovered the cat cafe's existence, they were quick to plan a date.
A year ago, Bdubs would've been apprehensive about the idea, with his not-so-favorable opinion of cats. However, ever since having Tugger around the house had made Bdubs especially fond of the domesticated animal so he was more than willing to check the place out. Although there were still Doc's nasty allergies to the creatures. Yet, Doc was insistent on visiting Coffee Whiskers. "It'll be fine! I'm only half creeper, so that negates my allergies to a degree!" He had reasoned.
Bdubs had laughed, pointing out, "I'm not sure that's how it works!"
But regardless, they were there, and a familiar face greeted them with a bright smile. "Welcome to Coffee Whiskers! Table for two?"
Bdubs' jaw dropped. "Scar? I thought you started a home improvement business!"
He giggled. "Who said I could only work one job? I adopted my cat Jellie out of this place, it means a lot to me," he explained as he grabbed two menus.
Feeling an arm snake around his waist, he looked over to find Doc's eyes soaking in the cafe, more specifically the different cats exploring the room. It was cute how excited he seemed.
As Scar showed them to their booth, he listed off each cat that was out at the moment; breed, name, and gender included. Once they placed their drink orders, he left.
"Oh, look!" Doc pointed over Bdubs' shoulder. When he turned his head, he found a tuxedo cat climbing the cat tree just behind their table. On the wall beside them was a ledge meant for the cats to walk across. He watched as the cat hesitated twice before leaping down onto the ledge. He padded over, sitting with his tail swaying over the edge.
"I think he's judging us," Bdubs snorted when the cat's eyes narrowed. His name tag read 'Boberto', which only made Bdubs laugh more.
Another cat approached their booth. He was an orange tabby named 'Gunther'. He leaped up onto Bdubs' bench and cautiously sniffed at him. With his front paws on Bdubs' leg, he stretched before climbing into his lap.
Doc pulled out his phone to capture an image, a large smile on his face. "Whaddya think about getting a second cat?" He jokingly asked.
Bdubs laughed. "Tugger is all I need," he insisted, carefully petting the cat.
Scar returned with their respected coffee orders. Gunther sat up, ears perking up. "Oh I see our resident rascal has taken a liking to you," he noted with a laugh. "If you're not careful he'll try to crawl on your- oh, and there he goes!"
The cat unexpectedly turned to Bdubs and climbed up to his shoulder. "Uh, what do I do?" He nervously asked.
"Don't worry! It's alright! Here," Scar assured him, sitting down for a second. He pushed a stray tuft of Bdubs' hair to the side so Gunther's ear would stop flicking. "I would say this would be when that bandana would be extra useful, but I suppose he would just be batting the tail ends," he laughed.
"He looks great without the bandana," Doc huffed under his breath, but not quiet enough to go unnoticed.
Scar looked confused. "Sorry?"
Bdubs' eyes lit up. "He's purring!" He whispered.
"So you want him to stay there, then?" Scar teased.
He lightly laughed. "No no, I'm good. If you could help me get him off that'd be great."
Carefully, Scar lifted the cat from his shoulder, who eagerly got comfortable on Scar instead. "Right, I'll be back in a bit to get your orders!"
