Ever since they returned home from their honeymoon, Bdubs couldn't help but notice Doc was suddenly significantly more busy than before.

During the week, he'd leave for work before Bdubs woke up, and wouldn't be back until he was either half-asleep or already out for the count. On weekends, he'd either be catching up on sleep or taking impromptu calls from his boss or coworkers.

At first, Bdubs tried to get him to relax when he could, take breaks, and spend some time around the apartment together. But after three and a half weeks of trying, he felt as though Doc wasn't putting in the same effort.

On the nights he didn't have to worry about waking up the next morning for his job, Bdubs would wait up for his husband.

He sat up in bed, with the blanket in his lap and his hands folded on top. It was about 11:45 PM when he heard the front door open. Finally, he lay down, listening to the white noise of the shower.

When the hybrid dragged his feet into the bedroom, he crawled onto the bed with a hefty yawn."You're late, again," Bdubs pointed out with a sigh.

"Oh, you're still up. Sorry Bee," Doc mumbled, pressing his lips to his hair before nestling down. "I ate at work, so don't worry 'bout that."

"Doc, we need to talk about this," he urged. His husband muttered something incoherent.

With a disappointed exhale, Bdubs reached over to fix his hair. Despite the pitch black, he could see he was already fast asleep. He scooched closer, inviting himself to curl up against his chest. "I miss you," he murmured before closing his eyes.

Once again, Bdubs woke up with a lack of warmth around him. Frowning as his eyes opened, he stretched an arm out, grasping at the air where Doc should have been laying.

But he realized he heard movement and slowly sat up. Doc had returned to the bedroom, sitting at the edge of the bed to put his shoes on. "Leaving already, huh?" He commented, crawling over to where he was.

"I actually should have left already," Doc admitted. "But I woke up late and then I had to find these shoes because I meant to pull them out of the closet last night." He let out a disgruntled sigh as he switched to the other foot to tie his laces.

Bdubs wrapped his arms around his neck. "I'm going out to dinner with some friends tonight. Will you be home in time to join? It can be a double date instead of me third-wheeling!"

A hand touched his arm, but instead of showing affection, Doc gently pried himself free and stood up. "I don't think I'll be able to, I'm needed in the lab pretty late tonight. And I really gotta go." He grabbed his phone from the bedside table and tucked it into his work bag.

Sitting back on his knees, Bdubs' frown deepened. "How long are you going to be like this?" He asked, with more annoyance to his voice than he would've liked.

Doc sighed. "I don't know. Honest. Send- tell our friends I said hi." He slipped from the room and Bdubs huffed, crossing his arms.

Suddenly, his husband came dashing back in, catching himself on the doorframe. "What'd you forget this time?" He scoffed.

Leaning over the bed, a quick kiss met his freckled cheek. Finally, Doc left for good. "I'm still mad at you," Bdubs muttered, despite no one being around to hear it.

-

Truthfully, he tried his best to stay cheerful while spending time with his friends. Bdubs had a big smile, though it was a bit difficult to maintain. He let the couple do most of the talking as they walked to the restaurant, but once they were seated, he was finally called out.
