As I was writing this, I took a break to go downstairs and get more water and saw on the news a severe thunderstorm alert. My bad lol

-

It had been raining a lot.

Sometimes at night, often during the day.

The amount of time it would rain varied, but more often than not, it was a heavy downpour, though never a full-on thunderstorm.

When the rain was light enough, Bdubs and Doc would dance around on their balcony.

It was nice, and Bdubs was convinced that even if it did start to thunder, it wouldn't bother him anymore.

But then one night, he was reminded his fears were still engraved in his body.

-

Bdubs was half-asleep. With an arm around his waist, he felt Doc's body emitting a cool breeze - as he typically did in the summer - from behind him. The sound of rain outside made for good white noise and something he had grown to enjoy falling asleep to.

But just as he began to doze off, the rain switched to a harsh downpour. He happened to open his eyes halfway and saw a flash of light peek through the windows.

His stomach dropped and two seconds later the loudest roar of thunder nearly shook the apartment. It deafened his encroaching dreams and he flinched, covering his ears and curling in on himself.

From how quickly the thunder went off after the lightning, the storm was right above them.

He tried not to shake so much but he saw another flash and winced. He gripped his hair, curling further in on himself as he braced for the harrowing thunder.

"Bdubs?" His husband mumbled, holding him tighter. "Are you okay?"

He forced himself to relax. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine, go back to sleep," he whispered.

The thunder hit and he hastily covered his ears. It resonated in his chest like it was a sentient cloud of fear trying to stop his heart.

"Shit that's way too loud," Doc groaned, pressing his face to the back of Bdubs' head.

"I know," he muttered.

"Honey, you're trembling." The hybrid worried. He kissed his head before gently encouraging him to roll over and face him. Doc pulled him into his chest. "It's okay, it'll pass."

Bdubs could only frown. "I hate that I'm not over this. I thought I was." The hand on his side ran up and down his body.

"Your fear is completely valid. I mean, who likes loud noises like that?" On cue, the thunder attacked again. This time, Doc hugged him against his chest. "It's awful."

"It still feels childish," he complained.

Doc kissed his head. "I'll say it a thousand times; it's not childish to be scared. It's okay," he softly insisted. Bdubs squeezed his eyes shut, burying his face into the side of his neck. His husband mumbled an apology as he pulled away for a moment, returning to press an earbud to his ear. Bdubs affixed it to rest comfortably and soon enough, soft music floated into his head.

He took deep breaths to match Doc, whispering; "Thank you."

-

The hybrid had the other earbud and set his phone back down. He hadn't told his husband that the playlist was one he had made specifically for situations when Bdubs got overwhelmed by loud noises or got scared during storms.

He intentionally continued taking slow, deep breaths hoping it would encourage the other to do the same.

"I hope Tugger is okay," Bdubs mumbled against his neck.
