Precious Virtue
Chapter XVII: Fragments Of My Mind
[Preston's POV]
I was exhausted by the time my roommates and I arrived back at our dorm after the bonfire. We had stayed at the park huddled near the warm flames until roughly one in the morning, and after having a few drinks, I was ready to lay down and knock right out.
I kicked off my shoes and hung up my coat by the front door, and after saying goodnight to my roommates, I headed upstairs to my bedroom. I spent ten minutes changing into a pair of sweats and doing my nightly routine before crawling into bed, hugging the blankets around me. Despite the exhaustion that embraced me, it still took a while for me to fall asleep, my thoughts crowded with insecurities and pessimism.
When I woke up the next day, the sun was already high in the sky, its bright beams peaking into my room. I groaned and rolled over on my bed, reaching down to grab my phone off the floor to check the time. Eleven in the morning it read, and with a sigh, I rolled onto my back and stared up at the ceiling.
I didn't get out of bed right away, and instead scrolled through my phone, checking all of my socials, and answering text messages from my dad, and Joseph. I really needed to catch up with him. Like Adrien and I, Joseph and I have always been close as well, and I missed talking to him every day. I haven't seen him, or any of our high-school friends since summer break. Everyone's been either busy with college or work, but I knew we were all planning on getting together for Christmas break, which was roughly only six more weeks away.
Eventually, I forced myself out of bed, leaving my phone to sit on the bed as I grabbed a towel and headed out of my bedroom and to the bathroom Elijah and I shared. I stripped out of my clothes and hopped into the shower. I spent about twenty minutes washing up under the hot spray of water and drowning in my own thoughts.
When I was finished showering, I dried myself off, wrapped a white fluffy towel around my waist, and stepped back into my bedroom to grab myself a clean pair of clothes to wear. But just as I was grabbing a hoodie from my wardrobe and tossing it onto the bed, along with a pair of sweats, there was a sudden knock on my bedroom door.
Frowning, I walked back over to the door, eyes widening in surprise when I opened the door and saw Adrien standing there, looking as beautiful and as breathtaking as ever.
"Adrien?" I said, stunned and struggling to grasp the fact that he was actually standing in front of me. Adrien flashed me a smile.
"Hey," He replied, a light blush coating his cheeks when he realized I was wearing nothing but a towel, and he cleared his throat, "sorry, did I catch you at a bad time?"
God just hearing his voice in person again completely broke my brain. It's been forever since I last saw him. I know the last time I saw him was only three weeks ago, but still, three weeks felt like a century.
"No, you're fine. I just got out of the shower." I shook my head. "Uhm...you can come in, if you want. I just need to change real quick."
Adrien hummed and nodded. He slipped past me as he stepped into my bedroom, and I briefly caught the scent of his favourite vanilla body mist as I closed the door behind him. I internally cursed myself, and moved back over to the bed, dropping the towel from my waist while Adrien had his back turned to me, admiring what he could see of my room.
"Your room is a mess," He commented, a slight tease in his tone. I rolled my eyes.
"I told you it's messier than yours." I chuckled. I slipped on my sweats and my University of Leighton hoodie. "You can turn back around now."
