Chapter XLVI: Kiss & Tell
[Preston's POV]
"...And if we walk further in and to our left, we have the kitchen and the living space." The landlord guided us down the hallway from the front door and to an open archway, revealing an open-concept kitchen and living room.
The space was completely bare of furniture, with white walls, and wood floors. The kitchen cabinets were black, with a wood countertop and there was a brick accent wall. While the apartment was on the much smaller side, it was decently nice and at a cheaper price compared to all the other apartments in town. And as college students, we needed as fucking cheap as we could get.
Elijah stepped further into the space, walking around where the living space would be, and then over to the kitchen. He inspected the counters and looked through the few cabinets. He then turned to me. "What do you think?"
"It looks nice. Better than I thought it would." I replied. Elijah hummed and nodded. The landlord smiled.
"Let me show you the rest of the apartment." She said, and led us back into the hallway.
She guided us to the opposite end of the hallway, where the two bedrooms and single bathroom were. Both bedrooms were roughly the same size, with the same white walls and wood floors. She then showed us the bathroom, the cabinets under the sink black just like the ones in the kitchen. Of course, Elijah made sure to inspect everything, ensuring that everything was in shape.
"The apartment is pet-friendly, yeah?" Elijah asked the landlord as we exited the bathroom, making our way back to the living space. She glanced over her shoulder and smiled.
"Hm? Oh, yes. It is pet friendly." She said.
"Oh, that's perfect," Elijah replied, returning the smile.
I frowned, stopping mid-walk, leaning forward and whispering to Elijah, "Why does it matter if it's pet-friendly or not?"
Elijah shrugged. "I don't know, I was just curious."
I raised a brow. He walked past me to the living space to catch up with the landlord, and I followed after him.
"So, what do you guys think? Do you have any questions for me?" She asked us, shoving her hands into her pockets.
"Does the rent price include utilities too?" Elijah asked.
"Yes, utilities are included." She nodded.
"And what about the move-in date? And the rent deposit?" Elijah listed off. The entire tour, Elijah asked the landlord a bunch of questions, and she answered every single one of them, while I just stood there surprised that he had so many questions to ask. My brain came up blank when I tried to think of a question, and even if I did, Elijah was already asking it and getting an answer.
"Move-in date is the end of April, but I'm happy for you guys to move in sooner if you're able to. I just ask that you let me know beforehand." She replied. "The deposit amount is just a month's worth of rent. You'll get it back whenever you move out."
Elijah asked several more questions, and after the landlord answered them all, he was finally satisfied and turned to me with a curious gaze.
"So...what do you think? Should we get it?" Elijah asked.
"It's the best one we've seen so far, so I think we should," I said after a brief moment in thought, a teasing smile tugging the corners of my mouth. "What do you think? You were grilling her pretty hard with those questions."
