Precious Virtue
Chapter XXXV: Heart Waffles
[Adrien's POV]
I woke up to soft fur brushing against my face. I crinkled my nose and blinked my eyes open dazedly, a lazy smile tugging my lips when I came face to face with Luka's cat Lucky, purring and tapping his nose against mine.
"Well, good morning to you too," I chuckled softly. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and pulled Lucky against me. His purring got louder as he curled up against me, eyes closing contently when I scratched under his chin and behind his ears.
"You're so cute," I cooed, kissing his head. It was only then I realized, when I glanced beside me, that Luka's side of the bed was empty, blanket unmade. I reached over and patted the sheets—they were cold.
A frown painted my lips. It slowly faded when a sweet, cinnamon smell tickled my nose. I gave Lucky one last kiss on top of his head and pulled myself out of bed, sliding my feet against the cold wooden floor. I stood up, adjusting the large, baggy t-shirt I was wearing. I scooped Lucky up from the bed and while snuggling him in my arms, I slipped on some slippers and walked out of the bedroom.
The cinnamon smell only got stronger when I headed downstairs and to the kitchen. My eyes widened when I saw Luka in the kitchen, shirtless and in a pair of grey sweats, making breakfast.
There was a plate of chocolate heart-shaped waffles on the kitchen island, along with a bottle of chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and a stack of plates and utensils. The waffles also had white-chocolate chips in them, and fuck, they looked so delicious. Luka was busy chopping away at strawberries, cutting them into tiny heart shapes, and behind him on the counter, sat two red heart-shaped mugs while coffee brewed.
"Luka..." I said, speechless. Luka lifted his head, a charming smile adorning his face.
"Good morning, baby," Luka greeted. "Did you sleep well?"
"Y-yeah, I did," I replied, still in awe. "You made all this?"
I wandered over, Lucky still cuddled in my arms. Luka leaned down and kissed my lips when I reached him, before he bent down to kiss the top of Lucky's head.
"I know things have been weird between us these last couple of weeks, so I thought that Valentine's Day would be the perfect day to help fix that," Luka explained. "So...I decided to surprise you and make us breakfast.
"It all looks so delicious."
"Yeah? Why don't you grab yourself a plate and sit down. I'll feed Lucky," He suggested, taking Lucky from my arms. I smiled at him and nodded.
I pushed up on my tip-toes to place a peck on Luka's cheek, before grabbing myself a plate from the island. I placed a couple of waffles on my plate, drizzling whipped cream and chocolate syrup on top. I also sprinkled some strawberries on my plate. Once I was done, I carried my plate over to the kitchen table and sat down.
I cut into my waffles and took a bite, moaning at the taste. It was so good. Super sweet and chocolatey—the white-chocolate chips melted in my mouth along with the chocolate sauce and it was just amazing.
"These are so fucking good. You need to cook me this more often," I groaned, stuffing another bite into my mouth. Luka laughed. He gave Lucky his food, and then, he was washing his hands and joined me at the table with his own plate of waffles.
"I'm glad you like them. I found the recipe online and never made them before, so I was worried they wouldn't turn out well."
"Are you kidding? If you don't stop me, there will be no leftovers," I said in between mouthfuls.
