Chapter XVIII: The King Of Hearts

[Adrien's POV]

"You look so cute, Adrien!"

I turned to see Karsten as he stepped into the bathroom while I was in the middle of putting glitter on my face, and flashed him a smile.

"Thanks Kare. You look amazing yourself," I complimented. Karsten was dressed up as a witch, with a black pointed hat that had jewels dangling along the wide rim. He also wore a sheer black shirt, tucked into a pair of black flared trousers. He had kept his hair down in its natural waves, and he just looked beautiful. I was confident Flores would be left speechless at the sight of him.

Karsten grinned, coming to stand beside me just as I finished with the glitter. He helped me put the white flower crown on the top of my head, and fixed my hair afterwards. "You make such an adorable-looking faerie. I can't wait to see the look on Luka's face when he sees you."

"Yeah? Well, Flores might end up slipping in his own puddle of drool when he sees how hot you look in that witch costume." I snorted. Karsten burst out laughing, shaking his head.

"I'm going to go see if Luella and Faryn are finished getting ready," Karsten commented. I nodded. Karsten wrapped his arms around me in a brief but tight squeeze, pecked me on the cheek, and then he left the bathroom.

I stayed behind, briefly checking myself out in the mirror, making sure that my costume looked okay. Luka and I decided to match and dress up as faeries for the Halloween get-together at his place. I wore a white dress shirt, a pair of vintage trousers, pointed ears and a flower crown on my head. After I adjusted my wings in the mirror and washed the glitter off my hands the best I could, I made my way out of the bathroom.

When I stepped into the living room, Karsten was there talking to Luella and Faryn, who were dressed in their costumes. Luella was dressed up as the sun while Faryn was the moon, both wearing shiny trousers and tank tops, with a sun or moon headband on top of their heads. The only difference between them was that Luella was wearing gold, and Faryn was wearing silver. They both looked stunning.

"Oh, Adrien! Get your beautiful self over here." Luella called out to me, waving me over. "We have to take a picture!"

I chuckled and walked over. We squished together as Luella held her phone up to take a group photo. After several attempts, we managed to get a picture that we all enjoyed. Then, we grabbed our coats and overnight bags and headed out to Karsten's car in the residence parking lot.

The drive to Luka's house was a quick one. Karsten parked his car at the edge of the driveway, and we stepped out. Luella hurried towards the front porch and rang the doorbell, Karsten, Faryn, and I quickly following behind her.

Luka answered the door seconds later, a wide smile on his face. "Hey! You guys made it."

"Of course we did." Luella grinned. Luka laughed, shaking his head, before stepping aside to let the four of us in.

At first glance, Luka's house was quite spacious yet homey, the smell of pumpkin spice pleasantly hitting me in the nose. He had also embellished the place with an assortment of autumn and Halloween-themed decorations, which looked amazing. I heard chatter in the living room, and by the voices, it seemed that Luka's friends were already here as well, which meant it was just Preston and his roommates we were waiting on.

"Make yourselves at home—I have a variety of snacks set up on the kitchen island: chips, candy, you name it. I also have beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, so feel free to serve yourself with whatever," Luka explained.
