IZUKU POV
It was 8:30 AM, I was sitting on the back end of one of the police vans that had been brought in for today's mission. We were going to begin in a mere thirty minutes and I could feel my nervousness rising, but it wasn't for the mission. I was currently staring at my phone, constantly typing and deleting a message for Kyoka. I couldn't believe how hard it was for me to send three simple words. While I continued to struggle over sending a single message I heard a familiar sigh sit next to me.
"Better hurry up and send it, we're about to start."
Pops was starting off at the rest of the first years who all seemed out of place. Taking a deep breath I sent the message I had typed out. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders, until I saw it switch to 'read' instantly. Panicking, I turned my phone off. A full conversation was something I couldn't think about at the moment. A soft laugh came from Pops.
"Let me guess, she saw the message and instantly opened it?"
"Yeah, I haven't talked to her since Saturday. I'm definitely in for it when we get back."
"You and me both."
I raised an eye at Pops. "What did you do?"
"The usual, a kiss goodbye, told Emi I was leaving, and instantly turned my phone off as I left."
Shaking my head I laughed at him. "Sometimes you treat Licorice better than Mama Joke."
"Can you blame me? He is a ball of joy that understands peace and quiet."
"That he is." I looked up and saw the groups starting to form into who they were being paired off with for the mission. "So why is Maka Joke gonna be mad?"
"I may have left the ring on the counter with a note."
I whistled while I stood up. "Real smooth Pops. That better have been one hell of a note."
"It was, I'm sure she called out of work and is trying to hunt me down right now."
"I guess it's good we decided not to implant a tracking chip in me."
Pops laughed again as he stood up as well. "I think Jirou would agree with Emi on that one."
"Oh she would completely agree with it... we shouldn't ever bring that up to them."
"Agreed, a man needs to have a few secrets."
With that we made our way over to the rest of the group of first years. Everyone was extremely nervous as well as excited. Our first official mission as heroes was about to begin. With only ten minutes until we began we all split into our groups. We chose not to say goodbye, instead I opted to tell everyone that I'd 'see them on the other side'. Given the context of the saying I felt it appropriate since none of us knew what exactly was going to happen.
It was finally time for us to start. All of us in the Nighteye Agency and Pops were positioned directly behind the line of officers who were taking the lead. The plan we had was quite simple. The police would show the search warrant and one of two things would happen, either they would allow us in to search or they would fight back. Both choices worked for us, if they let us in we could efficiently split up and search and if they fought us it gave us the ok to fight back. If we were being honest the police were a buffer for us to reduce the chances of one of the heroes being taken out by a sneak attack.
When the officer who was taking the lead knocked on the door there was a moment of silence. Anyone could tell something wasn't right, without any words being said every hero readied themselves.
A moment later the wall leading to the compound had a giant hole through it. The impact alone sent a few officers flying. Pops and Mirio were able to catch them to prevent any further injuries from impact.
