Overlooking Kaito's office window were the towering buildings and the bright lights of the metropolis. His hometown, where his family house stood, was in Saitama but his company building was in the heart of Tokyo. It was a place where people were always in a rush, and work seemed to never end.
He kept tapping his pen on his desk and he was sure that his secretary was annoyed by the sound of it.
"So, what do you think, Yachiko-san?" He asked his secretary while he was still gazing out his office window.
"Let me get this straight, Watanabe-san. You think that you're bad at conversing in English," the secretary said.
"I don't think so. I know."
"But you always talk to our foreign business partners and transactions are successful," Yachiko-san reasoned.
"All the more reason why I need to improve," Kaito said.
"And that's why you wanted to enroll in ESL classes?"
He faced his secretary who was an inch shorter than him. Naoki Yachiko was wearing a suit and pants and his hair was neatly cut. The young man was just staring at him, as if not believing what he just heard.
"No offense, but I don't buy it, sir," Yachiko-san narrowed his eyes on him.
"Is that so unbelievable?"
"Yes! You might ask why? It's because you always spend time working, except for when your mother asks you to look after your sister. You don't even go out with your subordinates, always making excuses about work. You don't take holidays and you don't like days off. And now... Suddenly, you have spare time to improve your conversation skills."
"Done with rambling?"
"Watanabe-san, I'm not rambling. I'm stating facts. Something must have happened in the past weeks," his secretary paced.
He just rolled his eyes at his secretary's antics. "Is it really so hard to believe that I want to have some kind of personal development?"
"Personal development, uh-huh."
"Is that sarcasm I hear?"
"Yes it is. Now, tell me the truth before I look for an ESL school to enroll you."
Yachiko-san had the guts to talk to him that way because throughout the seven years of being Kaito's secretary, they had developed a friendship. If it was anyone else, he would have suspended him for misbehavior.
"No need to look for a school. I already have one in mind. ENG Pro, Corp."
"Wow. You had one in mind. Then why are you asking for my opinion about this?"
"Just so you could feel like your opinion matters," he shrugged.
"I can't believe I'm putting up with you," he was used to Kaito making fun of him. "I still think you're hiding something."
The secretary started mumbling to himself, "You've been spending time in Osaka the past few days. And if my memory serves me right, your sister takes English lessons," his secretary analyzed.
Kaito stiffened and waited for Yachiko-san's analysis.
"I put two and two together... I know why you're going to enroll in ESL classes!" Yachiko-san said as he snapped his finger, emphasizing his Eureka moment.
"I already told you why. But I'll humor you then," he said, maintaining an expressionless face. However, deep inside he was nervous about what his secretary could deduce. What if he saw through Kaito and knew about —
