Looking back at the past years, Kaito only spent his time chasing new business ventures for his legacy and to support his family. If someone said that he would be wooing a woman, not just any woman but a very hardworking teacher, he would not believe it at all.
But when he started a relationship with Feli, he believed that they would last long, that their connection wasn't just a short-term thing. So, it wasn't a surprise for him when they reached their first anniversary.
He initially thought that couples celebrated every month but Feli insisted that they should just celebrate after a year. He knew that she didn't want any unnecessary spendings when celebrating monthsaries. Because of that, he just saved up to spoil her on their very first anniversary.
Kaito leaned back on his office chair, facing the city view outside. He knew it wasn't easy for them to reach this point. He would always get mad at Feli if she was multitasking while talking to him on messenger. He rarely demands anything but the one thing that he requested from her was to give him her full attention whenever they talk.
No laundry. No cooking. No cleaning. No doing her lesson plans. He didn't want to share his time with other things.
In return, his focus was hers alone whenever they talked during their scheduled calls.
He may be selfish like that, but they didn't see each other in person. The least they could do was respect their planned calls.
And Feli also didn't demand anything, in fact, she was doing a lot for him. Before, he would get annoyed that she was cooking his meals when he visited her house or when she went to his in Osaka. He would be baffled when she would repair his torn shirts or even help Aya with her assignments.
There were several others and he made it clear for her that she was neither a helper nor a tutor for him. And the woman just shrugged and waved off his comment even though he threatened to pay her if she didn't stop.
It was infuriating at first.
Then, he slowly recognized these actions as Feli's way of showing her love. She liked taking care of him and even if she didn't admit it, she loved pampering him. And since they were apart the majority of time, she fussed way too much when they met.
All the late night calls, the petty arguments, the canceled plans, and back and forth trips were not easy, but they surely made Kaito and Feli connect all the more.
And speaking of connection, he needed to call her soon to know if the plane had landed. He unlocked his phone and he was greeted by his wallpaper—a selfie of Feli wearing an apron full of smiley design. Her hair was tied into a ponytail enclosed in a hair net. Her hands were covered with flour as she did a peace sign pose. The picture was a remembrance of her first time baking cookies for him.
There was a message from her saying that she was about to board the flight from Manila to Tokyo.
"Is she here yet?" Yachiko-san asked. His secretary and Feli had became close acquaintances, much to his annoyance. Yachiko-san had been spilling his secrets behind his back.
"Not in five hours."
"Want me to fetch her when she arrives?"
He scowled at his secretary. "Why? Are you the boyfriend?"
Yachiko-san raised his arms as if in surrender. "Whoa, there. I'm only asking. If you want to fetch her yourself, go. I'm not stopping you."
"Yeah, I'll fetch her because I had surprises lined up for her."
After a few hours, he went to the airport to get her. It was the first time that she went to Japan during the winter season. Seeing her in layers and layers of coats and scarves made him want to peel them off because he was used to seeing her in shorts and sundresses.
