During the mass at the church, Feli tried her best to listen to the priest. Her mind would wander and think that maybe she shouldn't have left Kai at home. Then she would count the minutes until the end of the mass. Then she would scold herself for not paying attention. Finally, she was able to regain her focus until the mass was concluded.
Her parents and Andre decided to go to the supermarket while she went home to entertain her guest.
Maybe, she really shouldn't have left Kai. She was feeling a little nervous as she approached their house because almost all the neighbors were looking at her weirdly.
"Aaron, where's Kai?" She asked when she passed by their sari-sari store.
"He's out in the back with Kuya August," her brother replied.
She frowned. What were the two doing outside? Before she could reach the backyard, there were loud chopping sounds.
Her eyes widened when he saw Kai under the shade of their Cacao tree. She had to blink several times to make sure she was seeing things clearly.
He was there. Splitting wood. Drenched in sweat. Heaving. Topless.
And gorgeous as ever.
He had a folded handkerchief tied around his head, preventing his bangs from blocking his eyes. His signature frown was plastered on his face. And most importantly, his well-defined muscles were on display.
She was just from the church! What was this? A test whether she'd be delivered from temptation?
"A fly might get in," August interrupted her thoughts as he closed her mouth. She hadn't even realized that her jaw was hanging.
The surroundings became clear again. She realized that their neighbors, who didn't even bother to hide their gossiping, were peeking over the fence towards the Montes' backyard.
Wow. They weren't even inconspicuous.
"What is this, August? I was gone barely two hours," she hissed. Next, she went straight for Kai.
Kaito's muscles were aching but it was nice. He missed two days of work-out so this was a good way to compensate for it.
He glanced up and saw Feli walking towards him with a scowl. He realized that the neighbors were not minding their own business. He assumed that it was what made Feli annoyed.
"Kai, let's go inside the house," Feli requested. Then, she turned to her neighbors and said something. She was smiling but her words were hard and serious, however, Kaito couldn't understand because she spoke in her native tongue.
"What did you say to them?" He asked as he walked beside her towards the house.
"I asked them if they needed anything. They must've felt embarrassed because they hurriedly went inside their house."
"Aren't you afraid of confrontations?" Because if it was him, he simply wouldn't care.
"No, I didn't do anything wrong and I asked them nicely."
That was nice? It sounded like she was scolding them, he thought. But what did he know? He couldn't speak in Bikol.
When they were in the kitchen, Feli asked him to sit down and gave him a glass of water. She also gave him a towel to wipe his sweat off his body.
"This is my basketball jersey. You can borrow it," August handed him the clothes then he put it on.
"Alright. Let's talk about what happened back there. Why were you chopping wood?"
