People could never be prepared with what life has in store for them. At one point, they could be living a happy life. At the other, they could be dying of boredom from their repetitive days. On the other hand, life would surprise them with boulders of problems.

Feli had always believed that when it rains, it pours.

The rain came in the form of Aaron knocking on the classroom where Feli was teaching. She stopped mid-sentence when she saw her brother and his red-rimmed eyes. One look at his face, Feli knew that something was wrong.

She gave her class a group activity before she asked her brother what was wrong.

"Papa," he uttered. One word from him made Feli's throat constrict.

She immediately gave the students a free cut and she packed her things and left with Aaron.

The two of them hailed a tricycle and went to the hospital. Her youngest brother explained that their mother called Feli first but she wasn't picking up. She remembered putting her phone in silent mode as she was teaching a class.

Their Mama tried to reach Aaron, then. His phone was always in his pocket and since it was on vibrate mode, he was able to pick up the call.

"I excused myself from the class when I saw Mama calling. When I answered, she said that Papa collapsed in the CR and they were on their way to the hospital," Aaron told her while they were in the tricycle.

He said that their mother was in a state of panic because her voice was shaky and a little hysterical. He asked their mother to stay put because he was going to get Feli and they would immediately go to the hospital.

Aaron explained the situation to their homeroom adviser so he was excused from class. And there was only one remaining hour before the dismissal bell rang so he was good to go.

"Did Mama mention anything about what's happening in the hospital?" Feli asked, sweat started to form on her forehead.

"No. She was just crying and saying that Papa was in the CR for too long. After she served the customers in the karinderya, she went in to check on him but he wasn't responding and the door was locked."

The panic inside her did not subside. This was how many elderly people die. They would go to the bathroom, lose their balance, break their bones, or worse hit their head and they could... die.

Stay calm!

She internally shouted. She couldn't lose it in front of Aaron. Their mother was barely holding on as it was.

"Okay," she sighed. "Okay, let's not assume anything until we see the whole situation. Did Mama say how she was able to get Papa in the Emergency Room?"

Aaron wiped his eyes. "Yes. When nobody responded from inside, she asked for help from the customers and the hired help. Then somebody forced the door open and someone else immediately called for an ambulance."

The hospital where their father was brought in was a private one. It was one of the most advanced and well-equipped healthcare facilities in the whole province. She didn't care whether the bills pile up as long as her father was well taken care of.

When they arrived at the hospital, they immediately searched for their mother whose initial adrenaline had subsided.

"Mama, where's Papa?" Aaron asked.

"He's in the ER. He hit his head and they did some tests. There was a blood clot in his brain," their Mama explained.

"They're conducting a surgery?" Feli asked.
