Chapter 11

A day went by since Sammy spent the night in Feli's family house. Her best friend had her earphones on while Feli conducted her tutorial classes that evening. Sammy didn't want to talk about her problems so she just let her be. In the morning, Sammy bid her goodbye as she said that she needed to return to reality.

Feli sighed. She really wanted to make her friend feel better and she felt that letting her spend the night in their house was not enough. But Sammy assured her that their warm welcome was more than enough.

She had been preoccupied at the High School but her messenger was online just in case Sammy called. However, when she was home and ready for her online classes, she had to put her phone on silent mode.

Upon checking the list of students she had for the evening, she saw that there were a few new students. This included her 7:30 PM appointment with someone named Kai.

Tutors cannot see or visit their students' profiles. The ENG Pro. System only showed them the students' class records. Kai didn't have any class records which meant that his class with her was his very first lesson.

The new enrollees had their own orientation on how classes were conducted. They were also taught about how to navigate the virtual classroom. Still, she must do her best to make Kai feel comfortable and welcomed.

"Good evening! I'm Feli and I'm your tutor for this class. Can you hear me? Or see me?"

Yesterday, Kaito reserved this class without feeling any uneasiness. But now, he was so anxious that he opted to turn his camera off. He cleared his throat and replied that he could see Teacher Feli but it seemed that the tutor couldn't hear him. He tried to speak again but nothing.

So he used the chatbox. 'Hello, Teacher. I can hear and see you clearly. Can't you hear me?'

Feli was used to some students who preferred to have their cameras turned off. But the problem with this student was his audio.

"Unfortunately, I can't hear you. Please try to reload your page and I'll do the same," she instructed the student.

It didn't work.

"Maybe you have a problem with your device? Or your earphone's mic?" She gave the students other options to check for.

'I think my mic is broken. My earphones are fine.'

"Why don't you try to remove the earphones and use your device's built-in mic instead?"

'Okay. Wait please.'

He followed her instructions and disconnected the earphones from his smartphone. He tried to speak but the tutor was clueless of what was going on on the other side of the line.

'Still not working.'

He was frustrated because he chose to have the lesson in the privacy of his car. He left his laptop and iPad in his office which was on the 40th floor of the building. He was currently in the parking lot and he didn't want to go back inside the building just to get his other gadgets.

"It's fine. You can just use the chat box for now. Is that okay?" His tutor asked.

He agreed since he didn't want to ask his secretary, Yachiko-san, to fetch his things because he would surely ask questions like why was his boss taking lessons in the car?

"Since it's your first lesson, can you understand me when I speak?"

'I do.'

Feli couldn't see and hear the student, that was why she had no clue whether this one was a beginner or intermediate level.

"Okay. That's good but I'll still speak slowly," she smiled. "Do you want to have introductions?"

'Yes please. You go first.'
