The change between them was never brought up in their succeeding lessons. There was an elephant in the virtual room; however, it must've been a baby elephant because it didn't take up all the room. So, Feli and Kai still had a lot of space to get comfortable. Despite the freaking tension.
Occasionally, she could feel that Kai was insinuating something was going on between them. If he was an aircraft marshal and she was the airplane, then he was doing a good job in giving her all the signals. He didn't even need a beacon to let Feli know which direction he wanted her to go.
Oh, she could read him alright.
Still, Feli hadn't dared to take a step further because she needed to be sure of herself first. And it seemed that he was only waiting for her to make that step before he could also advance.
She hoped that she could be ready soon.
But right now, she was unprepared when she received an email from him. Kai knew that it was a national holiday in the Philippines to honor one of the country's heroes, Andres Bonifacio. Bonifacio was the leader of the Katipunan, the organization whose goal was to separate the Philippine government from Spain. This was back when the Spaniards colonized her country.
Anyway, since she didn't have work at the High School, he asked if they could have lessons that day and reminded her of his end of the bargain.
He'd pay her double. It was hard to say no.
"Hello, Feli. Are you sure you're not too busy?"
It had happened several times but she couldn't get used to him calling her by her nickname and not "Teacher". The first time he did so, it was like she was listening to an alien word coming off his lips. Yet, she didn't comment and just let him call her with whatever he likes.
"Not really. I hope you don't mind, I'm not really dressed for a lesson," she told him.
Kaito looked at Feli who was wearing an oversized T-shirt with a Pooh Bear print in front. Her short hair was twisted and clipped behind her head. He envied the few loose tendrils that were able to touch her cheeks.
"I don't mind. I'm not dressed for the lesson myself," Kaito replied.
Who was he kidding? Of course, he freshened up before the lesson. Could she notice that he wasn't wearing black or gray today? He particularly chose his navy blue shirt that he only used once, and he had no idea if he looked good in that color.
When Kai said he was not dressed for a lesson, she believed him. Somehow, he was wearing a casual shirt instead of his suit or corporate shirts. His choice of shirt made him look younger. But her certain favorite was his wavy hair because it added to his appeal.
"Aren't you supposed to be in the office today?" She asked since it was Friday.
"I just got back from another company branch. I'll go to the office later," he explained.
"How did it go?"
"It was what I had hoped to be. The negotiation was a success. I let Yachiko-san handle one of our biggest accounts."
"Really? So you think that he's ready for the promotion that you mentioned last time?"
"He is. But it's a secret for now, he doesn't have a single clue."
"Wouldn't you miss him?"
"Perhaps. But, I don't want him to be stuck as my secretary when I can see his potential."
She couldn't help but smile. Kai was not selfish with his skills and knowledge. Instead of thriving alone, he also made sure that his staff thrived with him.
