Pearl Harbor seemed like it was a safe place to be away from war, nobody knew where it was. It was small, and the safest we could work, train, and was seen as an island of attraction, a beautiful place for people to forget about the thought of war. It seemed like America was at peace, and never had to worry about the thought of war.
Until December 7th 1941
A date that will live in infamy.
That day was one of the most horrific days a person could ever face.
Gavin Kelly was shaken with fear, this is the most he had to deal with in the six years he has been in the military. No one knew what it was at first, it was a Sunday morning when the attack began. The first bomb nobody thought of anything about it, people just assumed that there were people in the air force training early, but nobody would be training on a Sunday morning at the crack of dawn. Gavin knew right there, that something was up. Things were not right, and something bad was happening.
He saw the sight of that second bomb exploding at the USS Arizona, that things weren't right. Gavin noticed that Hawaii was being attacked.
Peter did not have as much training as Gavin, since Peter was four years younger than him and he had just recently been transported to Hawaii. So he came in, with a lack of confidence and didn't know if he was ready for battle. But Gavin thought he could do it. Gavin woke up his friend Kenny, who has been in the Miltary with him almost as long as he was. They trained together, and never gave up on each other, and both had a feeling that the United States would end up in the war eventually.
Kenny and Gavin rushed to the air station, where Kenny had been driving and they sped through as Japanese planes were flying right behind them. Kenny drove as fast as he ever could.
As they reached the air station... they looked over to find the first planes that they could find. Gavin hopped in and tried to start the plane, but it wouldn't work. Kenny's plane worked fine, so he immediately started it to fight back.
"Kenny. Wait!" Gavin shouted. Kenny waited until he flew that plane as Gavin found a plane that worked. Gavin started it and followed Kenny's lead as they were ready to fight the Japanese soldiers that were attacking Hawaii. There were a lot of things going on in both of their minds in that particular moment, wondering if after the attack where would that lead the United States in regards to the war, would the country be involved now, would more lives be lost. And more lives are being lost by the second with what was happening. As both of their planes went up, Kenny shot the first plane and Gavin shot the second one. Gavin was overwhelmed with fear as he heard more shots being fired, he continue to fire back and heard someone shout "I've been hit." but it wasn't his. As he saw a plane explode in flames, he realized it was Kenny's. And Kenny, he died instantly.
But Gavin didn't let that stop him, he knew he needed to fight back against the Japanese. On his own, even though Kenny was dead, he had to do it for him, there were two Japanese planes, against one US plane. But he knew he could do it.
He hit the first plane, and then later hit it again, and immediately exploded. As he was being chased by the second plane, he started to think and wonder how to fight back he knew that he had to figure out how to stop being chased. Until something came into mind, that maybe he would play a little chicken with the one plane, was it possible? Only one way he could find out.
As he kept moving around in circles in that plane, he saw that the Japanese plane was close to running out of fuel. But Moments the plane exploded, the plane exploded and he was screaming with happiness on the inside, but he knew it wasn't over yet.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, there were three women working toward helping wounded men that have been attacked by bombs. Delilah Stewart, Lucy Witter, and Nancy Thompson. All three of them were young and new to the medical field. But knew that they have to act fast. Because this was real. And more men were coming in by the second, with lack of room in the hospital, Delilah felt a quick panic, a quick panic rushing to her blood. And fear into Lily, but they both knew that they had to remain calm. Nancy was the calmest of them all, she had gone through hell, but this was worse. Worse than anyone could ever imagine. Lives were being lost, and more men couldn't get the help that they needed. But it was Delilah who was the one that was struggling the most.
Delilah was someone who everyone got along with easily, she knew everyone well, and was willing to be friends with everyone, she was popular in Hawaii, and she was smart, spontaneous, and vivacious. But her spirit was breaking that fateful Sunday morning, seeing one person die after the other, is what really broke her. She was someone who had hope but lost hope more and more by the second. As she saw one man, she heard him screaming on the hospital bed, he was shaking and she started to shake along with him. She looked at the fear in his eyes, knowing he didn't want to die. As he stopped moving, she knew he was already dead. She shut his eyes and whispered for him to sleep. Lucy, the youngest girl looked at her for comfort, seeing the poor girl not knowing what to do anymore.
"Delilah, they need morphine." Lucy cried out, "I think we're out!" Lucy saw the lack of morphine and was shaking, men were crying in pain and everything was getting more and more overwhelming. On Everyone. Lives were lost, along with innocence.
Delilah just needed Gavin. Her dearest love. She was praying, that he didn't get hurt by the Japanese Army, she was praying that he isn't going to be one of her patients. But Gavin was invincible, nothing could break him.
Moments passed and Peter, Gavin's younger brother arrives with wounded men that needed assistance. One of them was gushing blood with an open wound on his leg. And the other was having a seizure Delilah helped the one with the seizure and Peter helped the other wounded soldier to help the gushing of blood stop and wrapped his jacket around his wounded knee.
"Thank you Peter," Delilah said mumbling, Peter looked around to see more soldiers wounded and crying in pain, he saw that Delilah was losing hope. He patted her shoulder and looked at her. Peter was going to do the best he could to help anyone out. And Make sure that as many people survive as possible, even though the likeness of everyone living was almost impossible. Peter was always the rushing-to-action type, to help people as much as he could. That's who he was. A caring soul who wanted to do the right thing and help out, even if there was not a likely chance people would survive.
With the attack on Japanese, there was a strong reality towards the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The war was about to begin. And There was no way of getting out of it.
