"Why would you do that!?" Morgan asked.
"I DON'T KNOW, I PANICKED!" Mack responded. "I just didn't want him to leave. I was having a good time talking to him and I even stuttered less than usual and he told me some stuff about his deceased brother, I just...I couldn't help it. I felt like I was finally getting somewhere with him and I panicked."
"Wait so you didn't stutter?" Morgan asked and was almost proud.
"I said stuttered less than usual. Of course I still fucking stuttered, he's hot and I don't speak well, Morgan!"

She sighed.

"Well, goddamnit, Mack, you don't even talk to that many people anymore."
"That's not true, I still speak to Will. And...Harley..."
"HARLEY?! YOU THINK THAT BARBIE DOLL KNOWS SHIT ABOUT FOOTBALL?!"
Mack groaned. "What about David? Harley's boyfriend. Maybe he knows."
"Maybe, I don't know. Doesn't give off that energy but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask."
"Okay, okay...will you come too?"
"Tomorrow?"
"Yea."
"What time?"
"What do you mean what time?! I'm your little brother you should just say yes because you see my stress!"
"I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, jackass!"
"Oh...then maybe like 3:30?"
"Okay, I can do that."
"Good."

Dominic held a tight grip on his steering wheel as he drove to see Michael.

He continued to ask himself why he'd just agreed to go as if each time he expected himself to have an answer. He never did.

I DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT FOOTBALL!!? he thought loudly.

He stopped at a red light.
"Fuck. I don't even fuckin' watch football. I've never watched football. My father doesn't even watch fucking football! No one knows jack shit about that fucking sport! Who the fuck is still watching football?!" he wondered. "Now I have to lie. I can't just tell him I don't know anything."
Which was true. He really knew barely anything. Dominic only knew that quarterbacks were the stars (because that's how his high school operated, quarterbacks were the kings) and that the team had like seventy players give or take.
"I'll just tell him I can't go." he said nonchalantly as the light turned green.

Then he thought about the sad puppy dog face Mack had every time something disappointed him.

"FUCK!" Dominic shouted and hit the steering wheel.

...

Dominic found Michael sitting at their usual meeting spot.

Michael climbed into the car as Dominic just sat there.

"What's up?" Michael asked.
Dominic didn't answer.
"How'd last night go?" Michael smirked.
"Good." Dominic responded matter of factly.
"Doesn't sound like it..."

"No, it did." Dominic insisted.
"So then why do you look...lost?"
"Probably because I am, dick."
"Why are you insulting me?!"
"I don't know! I'm fuckin' going through something right now!"
"What are you lost about?"
Dominic didn't answer.

Michael stared forward as he waited for a response.

Then something dawned on him.

"YOU LIKE HIM!" he shouted.
"WHAT?!"
"You like Mack, don't you? Don't lie. I hang around you all the time so I'll just come to the realization on my own if you don't tell me. Lying is futile."
"Fu-...FUTILE?! When the fuck did you learn the word futile?!!"
"The store that sells the tvs was playing a movie and the villain said it. Thought it sounded cool."
Dominic sighed and laid his forehead on the steering wheel again.

"So you do like him?" Michael asked.
"No."
"Lying but okay. Why are you against liking him?"
"I don't do that."
"You don't do what? Like people?"
"Don't like people. Don't do relationships."
"Why?"
"Because it's a waste of time and I don't want to."

Michael just sat there in confusion.

In Dominic's mind relationships were just you giving your heart to someone and them toying with it until they decide you're not nearly as important as you thought you were to them and then they leave. He didn't want that. Why would he put himself through that? Sure Mack was cute and nice now but what happens when Dominic finally gives in and decides he'd like to make things work, now they're a few months in and all of a sudden Dominic is just sex to Mack and boring. What happens when Mack stops caring about him or he realizes Dominic's not enough? Or when Mack comes to the realization that Dominic is actually too much of a broken shell of a human being and leaves him? If he finds out Dominic is an addict? If he doesn't but it makes Dominic a terrible boyfriend?
He didn't want any of those options to happen.

"Huh?!" Michael finally asked.
"Nothing. You alright?"
"Yea, I'm fine. Kind of hungry."
Dominic went into his armrest and pulled out a wad of cash wrapped in a rubber band.
He pulled out a twenty.

"Don't spend all of it at once. Save it for later." Dominic instructed before handing it to Michael.
"If I do, will you tell Mack you like him?"
"If you do, I won't hurt you. Get out of my car."
Michael rolled his eyes and did as told.

Dominic left his parking spot.

"I KNOW YOU LIKE HIM!" Michael shouted behind the vehicle.

Mack made a few calls and now had his sister, David, Harley, and his old teammate, Will, coming to watch football at his place tomorrow. Of course along with Dominic.

He was so happy that none of them had plans but to watch it at their own homes.
Now all he had to do was go grocery shopping for the dishes he'd make for it.

As he threw on a jacket and grabbed his keys he wondered why he even did this to himself.
He could've just let Dominic leave, but no, he had to spit out a lie and cause extra work for himself. Extra work and extra stress. He of course had the option of cancelling it and telling Dominic never mind, but...he liked seeing him.

He found his truck and hopped in, but as he did, he remembered something.

He would have Dominic and Harley in the same space tomorrow. His eyes widened in realization.

"M-Maybe...it won't be t-too bad...because David will be there, right? Y-Yea...it's fine..." he stuttered to himself in nervousness.

Of all the people you could have invited... he thought.
