"You don't look like an office kind of guy." Dominic stated.
"Well, I...um...I used to work in more of the blue collar field b-but it doesn't pay well. And I went to college for marketing. I m-mostly did manual l-labor at my old job but I was also cons-sulted when it came to making changes."
"So really you did manual labor for fun?" Dominic asked.
"Um...I-I guess so...yes."
"Why is that?"
"I don't have to speak during manual labor. I just l-lift and move things. Wh-White collar is a bunch of paper work and m-.....meetings. Blue collar I just clock in, move stuff, then clock out."
"So manual labor seems more independent and less stressful?"
"Yes..."
"So you don't handle stress well?"
"N-No, I do but if there's a way to avoid it then I will."
"Right..."

This guy is like a mouse. He just moves around enough to survive and hides where he hopes he can't be seen or bothered. Dominic thought. How can you look like that and be scared to talk to people?

He looks like I piss him off. Maybe I'm doing this wrong. Am I not answering them correctly? He looks annoyed. I hope he doesn't think this is a waste of time. I need this job. I heard it pays well. Mack thought.

"Have you ever been fired?" Dominic asked.
"No."
"Really?"
"Yes, but...I have received c-criticism."
"Such as?"
"I was told to...uh...com-m-municate m-more and...tr-try to be friendlier with my c-coworkers."
"Were you rude to your coworkers?"
"No, I just d-didn't speak to them. Not because I h-hated them or anything but just bec-cause I'd rather stay to mys-self."
"Hm..." Dominic began taking off his suit jacket.

He went into his drawer and took out a small pill container. He poured two in his hand then threw them back without any water.
Mack was shocked and confused.

"Sorry, I have a slight cold." Dominic lied.
"It's fine." Mack replied.

How much longer do I gotta keep this act up? Dominic thought.

He was always a completely different person in the office than in the real world. Or at least he tried to be. He attempted to be nice, grammatically correct, and patient but everyone could see on his face that he didn't care and he didn't like them. They tried their best to stay out of his way.

Dominic sniffed and looked through Mack's paperwork.

"No criminal record. You haven't been fired. Went to a pretty nice college." Dominic stated. "You have any qualities you wanna warn me about?"
"Um...M-Maybe the communications thing? Other than that, not to...um...s-sound a-arrogant, but I can't really th-think of anything."
Dominic nodded. "Well, alright. I'll look over this and give you a call in the next few days about whether or not you got it."

The men stood up and shook hands.

Nice grip, they thought.

"Thank you." Mack grinned.
"No problem." Dominic replied. Smile-less.

Mack headed towards the door and Dominic sat back down.

What a weird guy... both thought.

As soon as Mack made it to his truck he loosened his tie and could finally breathe with ease.

"That was terrifying." he said aloud. "He wasn't supposed to be that...cold. I expected a warm family man not a...gang leader. Who the hell looks like that and only owns a pharmaceutical company? He looks like a drug lord."

Mack sat back and sighed as he remembered all of the times he'd stuttered in front of Dominic.

His phone rang and it was his sister's contact.

"How'd it go?" she wondered.
"Fucking terrible." Mack groaned.
"I can't even trust that answer because you think you dropping a pen would make the interview terrible."

He rolled his eyes.

Morgan and Mack have always been close. Especially since the two were pretty similar. Like how everyone assumed their sexualities incorrectly. Morgan had a handful of tattoos and piercings and was typically dressed in an oversized hoodie and baggy sweatpants with sneakers. Her hair was usually in a messy bun on top of her head with the hood of her sweatshirt up. If there was any sibling that everyone expected to be gay...it was Morgan. She however is as straight as a ruler. Which is what everyone expected of Mack.

"Did you stutter?" she wondered.
"Wouldn't be me if I didn't, Morgan." he sighed.
"Mackenzy..." she called in disappointment.
"I was nervous! He was cold and stared into my soul...And he was hot."
"He was what?"
"Cold and stared into my soul."
"Asshole, you know that's not what I'm talking about. What do you mean he was hot?"
"I mean he was hot."
"Describe him, you dumbass."
"Okay, well, he wasn't old like we thought he would be. He was tall but not as tall as me. He has these bright green eyes and black hair that he keeps brushed out of his face. He wore an all black suit without the tie, I didn't even know you could do that."
"Well it's his company, I'm sure he can do and wear whatever he wants. But he does sound hot."
"Yea and it was like he'd talk nice but his face read something completely different. Like he hated every second of it and couldn't care less about what we were talking about. I can't really read behind his eyes."
"Well damn. Mystery man."
"Yea, kind of."

Mack was right to believe Dominic couldn't have just been the owner of a company.
Dominic's second job wasn't technically a loan shark but he did let a few people borrow money and he expected to be paid back with interest.

He didn't do it much anymore, it was rare now, but he started the hobby a little bit after he got his father's company and he'd always been using his father's money to do it.

In fact, someone owed him a large sum today.

He went into his drawer to take out the same pill bottle from earlier, then noticed it was empty. He sighed and threw it back in the drawer before getting up to leave his office.

As soon as he left the room,
"Um, Sir. I'm sorry to interrupt your leave, but can you sign this please?" asked Macy.

Dominic was terrible with names unless they meant something so he had know idea what this woman's name was.

"Uh...Sure...Myra?"
"Macy." she corrected.
"Right...sorry." He took the pen and clipboard then signed the sheet. He'd forget her name again.

"Thank you." Macy grinned and walked away.

Dominic quickly travelled to get to the downstairs lobby then out the door.

He found his car and hopped in then went into the glove compartment and found another pill container. Dumping two into his hand and taking them without water.

He leaned his head back and looked at the ceiling of his car as he took deep breaths.

Something caught the corner of his eye.

Someone was in their truck hitting their head against the steering wheel repeatedly.

They finally picked their head up and were talking.
Dominic assumed they were on the phone.

When he looked closer,

"Is that...Watts? The fuck is he doin'?"

It had been ten minutes since Mack had left Dominic's office. Dominic wondered why he still sat there.

"He's cute, but that motherfucker is weird." Dom stated aloud.

"Morgan..." Mack called.
"Yea?"
"He's next to me."
"What?"
"Miller. He is next to me. Not close, like two empty parking spots down. I think he just saw me having a meltdown."

He groaned loudly and hit his head on the wheel again. This time producing a honk from the horn.

He picked his head up in embarrassment.

Morgan snickered. "Did you just-..."
"Shut up." he commanded.

Don't look. He told himself knowing Dominic heard the noise.
