Mack made it back home after dropping off Dominic and couldn't help but try to figure out what went wrong and made him want to leave so suddenly.
The situation had him afraid.

Dominic laid in bed, staring at the wall, and thinking about Mackenzy.

He didn't necessarily want to leave, but he knew he needed to put a stop to this relationship that they had. He felt like he was Mack's Andrei. He didn't want that.

He sniffed only this time it wasn't from drugs, he legitimately had a cold. His throat had been scratchy for about two days now and he constantly had a runny/stuffy nose.

He made the decision to go to the store.
But first he'd change out of Mack's baggy clothes.

Dominic made it and was in the medicine aisle of the store.

He was scared of getting pills.
He decided maybe he could just use cough drops.
But then he remembered his nose and cough drops don't solve that problem.

He sighed and grabbed the pill bottle anyway that was made for all of those symptoms and also cough drops in case he punked out.

He went to the cashier and checked out nervously before leaving and getting back into his car to head home.

He made it and set the bag down.

The bottle of medication just stared back at him as he looked at it sitting on his counter.
He couldn't do it.
He was scared he'd go too far. He'd get too comfortable.
He especially knew that if he went back...Mack would be disappointed in him. That wasn't what he wanted.

"Fuck..." he slapped the pill bottle and it rolled onto the floor to wherever.

He instead opened the bag of cough drops and took one of those to help.

He sighed to himself before going back to bed.

...

Mack woke up with Dominic on his mind.

He thought that maybe Dominic felt bad for staying at his place for such a long time without any payment. He hoped he hadn't made Dominic feel like a bum. He decided he'd try to make it up to him.

But how?

He called Morgan.

"Hello?" she answered.
"Morgan."
"That's my name."
"I need help."
"With what?"
"I want to do something for Dominic because I think I made him feel bad."
"What'd you do?"

He thought about telling her but it would also be outing Dominic as a drug addict which he didn't want to do without permission.

"I can't tell you that right now. Just help me think of something to show that I'm sorry." he avoided answering.
"Okay, umm..."
"I don't think I can do dinner. We went out to dinner last night. It would be too redundant and bland."
"Well, excuse me, Mr. Fancy."
Mack rolled his eyes.
"How did the dinner go?" she wondered.
Mack smiled. "I mean...it was good. We talked a lot and I don't know...I think maybe we're getting somewhere. I had fun. I think he did, too. Or at least I hope he did."
"That's so good. I hope it does work out. You deserve a good one."
"Thank you."
"What about a present?" Morgan offered.
"A present? Like what?"
"I don't know. Anything."
Mack thought about it.
"Maybe you two could go for a walk and do a bunch of cute things together."
"Yea..." He was still thinking of what kind of gift he should give.

He tried thinking about everything he'd learned about Dominic since he'd met him.

He really likes the color black. He thinks it makes all things look neater or suaver when worn. He likes cologne. He loves to smell good.

Mack wondered.

Is he ready for alcohol again?

He thought a nice wine would be good. Dominic loved wines.

"Okay, I think I got it." Mack smiled to himself.
"You do?"
"Yea. I'm gonna get him a bottle of some expensive wine since he likes wine so much then we can go on a walk and maybe visit that new bakery that opened. For like a sweet change of pace."
"Aw, that sounds fun." Morgan agreed.
"Let's hope he thinks the same. I'll get back to you on how it goes."
"Cool. I'll be here when you call."
"Okay."

The two hung up.

Mack hurried to his room to change.

He thought that a nice shirt and pants would do just fine. He didn't need a full suit. It would probably be too much.

He wore a white button down dress shirt with a dark brown sweater on top and pants that paired well.
Even with a warm sweater, his build could still be seen through and he thought Dominic would like it.

He grabbed his keys and left his apartment.

...

Dominic sat at home, staring at the pill bottle for his cold as if the two were battling it out like enemies on the same territory. He still refused to take them. He was too scared. He thought about going to work the next day. He refused to do that, too.

He hadn't eaten this entire day, he figured maybe that was next on the list.
But what did he want?
He didn't want anything.
He thought about how Mack would be pulling him off of the couch right now and demanding the two go out for dinner.
He then washed away those thoughts and just thought about how he needed to leave Mack alone.

He wished Mack had just left him alone after he said he didn't do relationships. As if Mack had the will power to stop chasing things he wanted.
Maybe then things wouldn't be so complicated.
Maybe they wouldn't have such a strange relationship and Dominic wouldn't be capable of hurting Mack.

He wished Mack would get it through his head that this wasn't going anywhere and save them both the trouble, time, and pain.
He thought they both didn't deserve one another.
He thought Mack was too good for him and he'd just drive Mack away later. He thought it would be rude to put Mack through that. Mack didn't deserve it. Mack deserved nothing but cake and puppies.
