Chapter 21- Growth

Later that day....

Callies POV

I got off of work early today and drove home. I'll have to pick up Sofia from school in two hours. I walked in "Arizona, I'm home!" I yelled, expecting the same old- no answer. Instead Sofia ran up to me "Mommy, Mommy! Mama let me leave school early today and we got ice cream and then played games on her phone in your bed and watched movies it was soooo much fun!" She chanted.

Moments after Sofia finished, Arizona began slowly walking down the stairs to catch up with her. Fully dressed nicely to go out- she actually put in effort by herself. She looked happy but tired and held the railing with one hand while putting one hand on her lower back as she walked down the stairs. Once she had completed the stairs she put the hand that was on the railing on the top of her belly. I smiled widely at her as she walked towards us and her lips curled slightly while her eyes softened.

"You took her out of school early" I remarked with a smile, she nodded.

"You had a good day" I remarked again. She sighed in exhaustion and said "making up for lost time."

Her eyes glazed over in sadness when she said that, but not the bad type. She smiled a little too.

I walked closer to her, "I love you" I said while looking right into her ocean eyes. She smiled a little bit again.

"I love you too" she said before extending her neck and puckering her lips for a quick kiss. Then her attention turned to Sofia, "why don't you tell Mommy what else we did Sof!" Arizona said to her. Sofia's eyes lit up with joy. "Mama let us listen to the babies heartbeat!" Sofia practically yelled in excitement.

I smiled. "She did?!" I questioned excited matching her tone.

"Yes she did, it was so much fun!!!" She responded.

"That's great Sof, why don't you go upstairs and keep watching some TV" I responded.

She ran upstairs and emotions flooded me. I walked over to Arizona and hugged her with every ounce of love in my soul. I thanked God for giving me my Arizona back. She showed the same compassion in her hug back. Moments later, she pushed me away to say "I'll be okay" with a little sad smile. I could not stop all the happy urges in my body. I put my hands behind her neck and kissed her with passion and she responded. The kiss only lasted a moment, especially because we both knew that nothing serious like that would happen for a while until we are back at work in an on call room, but it was meaningful. It meant something. "I love you" I told her again.

"I love you too" she responded. The words easily escaped her lips with a mini super magic smile. We hugged again, briefly, and then walked upstairs to our bedroom to watch TV with Sofia. I carried her up the stairs bridal style.
