Chapter 23: Anxiety

Therrie and the others had to stay inside their rooms until noon as a general cleaning all around the facility has been mandated. Out of nowhere. Wala namang problema iyon kay Therrie. If only she could stay inside her room for the rest of the day, she would do that, pero dahil nasa lugar siya na kooperasyon ang kailangan, hindi pwedeng hindi niya gamitin ang pakikipagsalamuha sa ibang tao.

It's just what it is for her now.

The fact that she doesn't even care what's happening around her made her know that she lose her anxiety for the day—she wished for the rest of her life so she doesn't have to suffer and overthink everything. It was the most exhausting thing for Therrie.

To think and do nothing at the end of the day.

Maya-maya lamang ay nakarinig na naman ng komosyon si Therrie sa hallway. She didn't mind the trouble that's happening outside. Hindi niya pinansin iyon hangga't sa marinig niyang kinakalampag na ang pinto ng bawat kwarto. At that point, she was curious and eagerly to know what's happening and as soon as she opened the door, she saw the staff and some of her friends running towards the direction of an open space.

Napakunot na lamang si Therrie habang pinapanood kung anong nangyayari.

"Therrie! Tara na!" sigaw ni Benji nang makita ang kaibigan na tulalang nakatayo at nagmamasid sa tapat ng pinto nito. Kinuha ni Benji ang kamay ng dalaga at hinihigit ito palayo papunta sa direksyon na tinuturo ng mga staff.

"Saan tayo pupunta?" kuryusadong tanong ng dalaga.

Tinuro ni Benji ang usok na nagmumula sa dulo na hallway kung saan papunta ito sa canteen. Napataas ng kilay si Therrie at saka tuluyang nagpahatak sa kaibigan palabas ng pasilidad. Wala siyang ideya. At kung ano man itong nangyayari, iniisip niyang walang masamang bagay ang kaakibat nito.

Nang marating nila ang garden at makasama ang ilan ay nagsimula namang binalingan ng mga staff ang nasa garden ngayon. Open space ang garden at nakalalayo sila sa usok. May ilan pang lumalabas mula sa pasilidad. Mga nakatakip na rin ito ng towel sa mukha upang hindi ma-suffocate pero tila pinapanood lamang ni Therrie ang lahat.

"Are we dying?" she muttered, trying to speak it out as a joke.

Mabilis na napatingin si Benji sa kanya. "Bakit mo naman nasabi 'yan, Therrie? We're not gonna die!" Benji turned hysterically. He's panicking at hindi na niya ma-control iyon. Lumapit naman ang ilang staff para pakalmahin ito, but Therrie just sat on the bench and watched everything unfold. No one knew how this is happening. Therrie seems unbothered though.

She saw Doctor Carmona standing worriedly near her staff. They were looking at each other, but the doctor swayed her attention away when she has to focus on the situation they are dealing with.

Nagpatawag na sila ng bumbero upang sugpuin ang sunog. Makapal ang usok sa loob kaya kung sino man ang papasok sa loob ay tiyak na masu-suffocate sa itim at kapal ng usok na ito.

Marami ang natakot at hindi mapakali. Ang ilang doctor ay nagbigay ng gamot na pampakalma sa ilan upang hindi na nila intindihin ang pangyayaring ito. Ngunit para kay Therrie, hindi niya ikinababahala ang panyayari.

She's not scared, she's not afraid of dying. She was just watching like it was happening in a scary movie. She was half grinning, hearing everyone cry out of their fears. But she won't act to be brave even though she doesn't lose it, she won't go in front telling everyone what they needed to do. They can carry themselves. Therrie should only look after herself.

Ten minutes passed, and the rescuers and firefighters arrived at the scene. But because the garden is located at the center of the premises, they went around the halls to get to them, but first, they have to meet the raging fire from the canteen.
