Silver hopped to bed wanting it to be the next day already. She had so much fun playing with Zara, plus she wanted to show Zara her special little place that she held onto as a secret. Silver fell asleep with a big grin on her face.
.......
The next day Silver jumped out of bed and got dressed quickly. She then ran downstairs but almost tripped.
"Is Zara here yet?" Silver asked her mom hopefully.
"No not yet." Her mother replied. "Have some breakfast while you wait." She placed a plate of mini pancakes on the table. Silver ate her breakfast, enjoying every bite of it. Then there was a knock on the door. Silver hoped it was Zara.
And it was. Once Silver saw her friend walk in, she ran and hugged Zara tightly. Zara gladly returned the embrace.
"Hi Zara!" Silver greeted. "Ready to see my special place now?"
"Yeah! Show me already!" Zara replied eagerly.
Without any further hesitation, Silver lead Zara to the backyard.
"We have to go behind the garden." Silver explained. "That's where my special place is. Also make sure you don't step on mommy's flowers."
"Okay." Zara said. Making sure she didn't trample any of the flowers that Silver's mom had worked so hard on, she followed her friends every step. The two eventually were in front of a small bush. Silver pushed the bush away revealing a small door in the ground.
"Well this is it." Silver said. Zara had a look of confusion on her face.
"Its just a door." She stated.
"Just wait a second." Silver said. She opened the small which revealed a glow in the dark slide that lead underground. Silver gestured Zara to go down the slide with her.
They both sat down and prepared for their descent. Zara was the first to slide down with Silver close behind her. On the way down, the two spotted green glowing rocks all over the pitch black walls. Zara gaped in amazement while Silver simply smiled and enjoyed the ride.
Once they reached the bottom, Silver and Zara were surrounded by more glowing gems on the walls. There were in what seemed like a cave of some sort.
"Well do you like my special place?" Silver asked. "I like to call it the Glowing Cave."
"This is amazing!" Zara exclaimed. "When did you find all of this?"
Silver shrugged.
"My mom said it was probably here before we got here since its so big." She said. "Mommy also said that we can use it as a hiding place whenever something bad happens. Only you me and her know about the Glowing Cave."
"Wow. You weren't kidding when you said it was a special place." Zara said. Silver laughed and started to walk, signaling Zara to follow.
"There's a lot more to see." She said.
As the two walked, they came across a path of huge blue mushrooms that they could jump on. Silver hopped from one to the other with Zara copying her every move. They had a blast laughing and talking through the cave. Then they came upon a dead end.
"Is this the end?" Zara asked.
"Well kinda. There are different rooms all around here." Silver explained. "But with this room, you can hear what our moms are talking about."
"Why would you want to know what grown ups are talking about?" Zara asked. "They probably talk about their husbands or something gross like that."
"Well we never see our dads so our moms aren't talking about husbands that's for sure." Silver giggled. "Let's just listen. They might be talking about what kinds of presents to give us for our birthdays."
Silver had Zara at the word presents. The two girls sat down and listened in on their mothers' conversation. Zara's mom was the first to speak.
"We're running out of time fast." She said. "They could arrive here any day now to get Silver and Zara. What are we going to do May?"
"Well one thing for certain is that they will not lay a finger on our daughters. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if we let them do what they want with them." Silver's mom stated. "The only hope we have is the hidden cave that Silver and I found not too long ago. No one has ever been able to find it."
Then there was silence.
"What are they talking about?" Silver whispered. Zara shrugged.
"Then its settled." They heard Zara's mom say. "Zara will stay here for a while and they will hide in the cave until we get rid of those monsters once and for all."
"Monsters?" Zara asked softly. "What monsters?" Silver shrugged and stood up.
"I'm hope the monsters won't be that mean." She said. "Maybe our moms are just be scared because monsters can be big. They can't be that bad right?"
Zara nodded and stood up as well.
"I guess we should go back to the house." She said. Silver nodded as they made their way back to the surface. There was a rope ladder next to the slide, so they climbed it and were back to the backyard. Silver closed the small door and covered it with the bushes.
Then their mothers came to greet them smiling like nothing about the conversation effected them.
"Good news Zara." Her mom said. "Ms. Yui is going to let you stay at her house for a few days so that you and Silver can get to know each other better."
The two girls looked at their moms, deciding whether or not to bring up the monsters. They chose not to and smiled with joy at the fact they can stay with each other.
"That's great." Silver said. "I can show Zara more of my special place tomorrow."
"Yeah!" Zara agreed. "I can't wait to see more of it."
The two girls followed their mothers back into the house. But they couldn't help but exchange worried glances about the monsters.
