After the man had returned to put Zara back with Silver, the two girls sat there saying nothing. After about five minutes of silence, Silver finally spoke.
"We're the only one we have left."
Zara simply nodded. Then she stood up and faced Silver.
"We have to make a deal." She said.
"What deal?" Silver asked.
Zara extended her hand to her friend.
"Now that we only have each other now, you and I have to promise to be sisters for now on." Zara explained. "And sisters always look out and protect each other."
Silver nodded and grasped Zara's hand.
"From now on, we're sisters." She said. When she said that, she couldn't help but smile. Silver always wanted a sister of her own and now her best friend was her new sibling. Zara smiled back.
"Ah, the new experiments eighty three and eighty nine." Said an unknown voice. The two sisters turned to see another man in a lab coat with black hair and gray eyes. Zara kept standing in front of Silver trying to hide her from their new visitor.
"My name is Professor Haze and I will be taking care of you from now on." He said.
"So you're supposed to be some kind of father to us?" Zara scoffed. "I already don't like you."
"Me neither." Silver agreed.
Professor Haze simply chuckled.
"You don't have to like me." He stated. "I'm simply doing my job. Now before we give you the vaccination, we're going to work on your physical strength."
Silver's eyes grew wide when she heard those words.
"That means you're gonna make us hurt other people!" She cried.
"No way! We're not doing what you want us to do!" Zara yelled.
"I'm afraid you don't have a choice in that subject." Professor Haze said. "Or anything at all as long you're in here."
Silver stood up beside Zara and glared at their 'caretaker'.
"Then we'll just get out of here." She countered.
Haze simply shook his head.
"Not possible. Now if you'll be so kind as to cooperate, this little test will go quick and easy."
Silver and Zara stepped backward away from Professor Haze. But the scientist had the upper hand in strength and forcefully dragged the two kids out. With a tight grip on Silver and Zara, he lead them to a huge room that looked like an arena. The edges of the arena-like room were surrounded by a metal fence
"I suppose to make it easier, we'll start with eighty three." Said Haze. With that, he opened a gate and shoved Silver inside the arena, while also trying to hold back the rampaging Zara.
Silver hesitantly walked forward since there was pretty much nowhere else to go.
"Your first opponent will be experiment seventeen." Professor Haze said to Silver. He pressed a red button on the wall and the tiger hybrid from before emerged from the ground. Silver had a look on her face that can only be described with one word.
Fear.
Silver's POV
Each passing minute I hate this place more and more. The only good thing that came out of all of this is the fact that Zara is my new sister. I looked back at Zara who was pounding on the metal fence. I then faced the tiger hybrid in front of me. It looked like it wanted to eat me for dinner.
Before I knew it, my opponent was running at me. What could I do? Did these people want us fight and hurt others? I don't like that idea. Not one bit. The hybrid pinned me to the ground, it spit dripping down on my face. It was very gross.
"I can't die like this." I said to myself. "Zara will have no one left if I do."
I did the only thing I could do.
Fight back.
I kicked the hybrid in the stomach, causing him to growl in pain and topple off of me. We both got to our feet and glared at each other. I saw its claws unsheath from its paws. The tiger hybrid cut my leg with its unusually large claws. Blood poured out of my wound and I fell. Knowing that I was now weak, the tiger hybrid pinned me down with its claws sinking into my shoulders. I cried in pain, begging for the hurting to stop. I could already tell that Zara wasn't happy about this. My attacker finally got off of me when Haze commanded it to. I simply laid there bleeding out. The last thing I saw was Zara sprinting towards me before everything went black.
Zara' POV
I shook Silver's shoulder trying to wake her up but she didn't. This made all the bad feelings in my stomach stir and explode. I cried and screamed. The tiger hybrid simply sat there watching. I gave it a death glare. I was mad at everyone in this stupid house. Why can't they just leave people alone? I stood up still having tears streaming down my eyes.
"You hurt Silver." I growled at the hybrid clenching my fist. "And for that you will get hurt too."
I slammed my hand in the monster's eye making it howl in pain. I didn't feel sorry for it. It deserved twice as much pain it delivered to Silver. Knowing that I was the next opponent, the hybrid didn't waste time to bite me. Its long fangs sunk into my arm. I screamed but kicked it in the jaw. Blood slowly trickled down my arm.
"That's enough!" Professor Haze shouted. I don't even know why I bothered to remember his name. I don't want to know anyone that does bad stuff to people. He ran to us and picked up Silver.
"Don't touch her!" I yelled. "Its all your fault that Silver is hurt!"
Haze simply stared at me. Then he grabbed my bleeding arm, which made me yelp and dragged me out of the arena. I guess he's putting us back in our cage.
And he did. But what made me mad was that he didn't bother fixing Silver's wounds. I told him to make her stop hurting but he simply said that it is her fault for being so weak. I looked at Silver who still didn't wake up.
"Don't worry." I said to her. "I'll get us out of here somehow."
