As if ice was poured over your head you stood in shock hearing the words leave her mouth. You knew it would be bad but never did you ever think it would be this bad . Your fingernails sunk deeper in Haechan's arm, almost worried that if you didn't hold on he might disappear from right in front of you.
Your head turned to look up at the boy who stood blinking repeatedly . "What?" he let out voice softer than you've ever heard.
"You've got to be kidding me" Mark scoffed , "Honey I never meant to keep it from any of you" she said now turning to address her husband's face who too seemed shocked to hear the news .
Mark's hand ran up to his hair before grabbing the bridge of his nose.
"So let me get this straight , that's not my biological father ? the man you had an affair with is ?" Mark said . His tone had turned cold; you've never witnessed him speaking to his mother like that before .
Mrs Lee was fully crying now and simply just nodded.
"I'm leaving," Mark said before spinning on his heels and leaving .
You stood looking between everyone wondering where to go but decided to run after your best friend turned soulmate.
"Mark , Mark wait , please" you yelled as you caught up to him.
"What Aera? What could you possibly want ?" he yelled at you.
You stepped back almost taking in the impact of his voice . "I wanna make sure you're okay," you said softly.
"Okay ? Okay Aera ?" he let out a sad laugh . "How the fuck am I supposed to be okay after hearing something like that . How could you possibly be stupid enough to even think that you could help me feel better right now" he spat.
"I-" ," You what ? What were you gonna do ? Run out here and hug me and magically everything would just be fine ? I don't know what kinda movie you are living in up in your head but this is realy life Aera and real life is fucked up" he continued .
"And don't even get me fucking started about the soulmate announcement, why was he there that night anyway ?" he asked , "Uhm .." you started .
"Were you really with Areum and Cho that weekend ? And don't even try and lie to me right now" he said .
" I can explain Mark.." you started , "Where were you that weekend?" Mark pressed again.
Your mouth opened as you searched for a way to explain yourself , Mark lifted his hand almost as if to gesture that what was happening was so obvious.
"Of course you weren't , I'm an idiot who just believes everything you say because I love you . but clearly you don't love me as much as I thought you did"
"That's not true" you finally said, tears welling up in your eyes.
"It's not ?! Then why do you keep lying to me ? Why do I keep having to find out from other people things you should tell me ? Am I not your best friend ? Your soulmate ? I never expected this from you Aera" he let out before turning and walking to his car , getting in and driving off.
A few minutes later Mr Lee came out and copied his son's actions and you turned to see Mrs Lee standing at the door in an almost identical position to you.
You attempted to wipe your face before walking back inside.
You walked out to the deck in search of Haechan , he sat on a lounge chair next to the pool. His suit jacket tossed messily over the back of the chair , his bow tie undone and shirt buttons unbuttoned.
He sipped on a glass of some sort of liquor that you imagine your father must've given him after the scene.
"Hyuck" you said as you approached him .
"Are you done with Mark now?" he asked and you raised a brow . "What's that supposed to mean?" you asked .
He placed his glass on the ground before standing so that he was eye level with you . His hazel orbs scanned your own .
"I asked if you're done speaking to Mark ?" , "Well yea he stormed off and doesn't wanna speak to me" you shrugged
Haechan rolled his eyes and pushed his tongue into his inner cheek before looking down at you again , his eyes now darker and colder than before.
"Glad to know I'm a second option yet again" he said, running his fingers through his hair .
"Hyuck it's not like that?" , "Then tell me Aera what is it like ? Because the only time you even look my way is either when I'm irritating you or when Mark's not around" he said , Haechan would genuinely give the world for you, but you were the person he needed the most when everything came out and you weren't there.
"Hyuck he's my best friend, how could I not check on him?" you almost pleaded .
"And what am I ? Just some random guy ? Who's house you stay over at? Who you kiss ?" he asked and your eyes began tearing up again.
"Fuck princess don't look at me like that , I hate seeing you hurt but I can't stand here and lie to myself like this. You clearly care about Mark , I don't know if you're confused about me or what's going on ."
He reached down for your hand and interlocked your fingers .
"Tell me I'm not lying to myself princess , tell me there's something here for you too and I'm not just imagining it" he practically begged as he placed his forehead against yours .
You sniffed and closed your eyes , you wanted to say so many things , to put his and your own mind at ease but no words surfaced.
Haechan let out a sigh , "I'm not confused , I love you I don't think I'll ever be able to stop , but when you figure out what you do want , you know where to find me" he placed a kiss on your forehead before grabbing his jacket and walking away.
You felt your chest begin to erupt in what felt like a mixture of flames and extreme coldness. A true description of your two soul mates polar opposites but somehow related .
You could feel Haechan's heart shatter as he walked away from you , and you could feel Mark's breaking from wherever he was too and here you were too , heartbroken for both boys you loved so dearly.
"Aera baby , i'm so sorry" you turned to reveal your father.
That was the end for you , you walked over and wrapped your arms around his waist burying your face in his chest , before you finally burst into tears.
It felt like years worth of tears came flooding out and for the first time , you could feel your younger self finally get to be your fathers real daughter and not whatever you were always trying to pretend to be.
