Chapter 14

"We've been traveling for two and a half hours. Jake, how long is it to get there?" Said Everest hungry and bored of being in the car.

"Not much, on the map it says we're close"

"I hope Marshall is well, who knows what it will be like" Everest said with dreamy eyes.

Traveling to many radio stations, Iris found what she was looking for.

"President Humdinger's recent law on the protection of the planet is having success, a few hours ago 20 members of a mafia were arrested in Marine Port City" Said the Radio conductor.

"Humdinger is crazy, who would ever want him in power" Said Iris reflecting on Humdinger's election.

"Sooner or later he will be removed from his post" Said Jake trying to comfort Iris.

Seeing the highway exit for the town where Marshall is located, Jake turned right. After a few minutes the three found themselves in front of a medium-sized city.

"Jake, pull over" Everest said trying to do something.

"Why?" 

"I hear sirens in the distance" Everest turned and looked out the finer of the car watching a beam of lights approach quickly.

Jake seeing the cars approaching did as he was told. "I pulled over, now we have to wait for them to pass"

Everest watches fire trucks go by, he noticed that in one of them there was a dog dressed as a firefighter. Female dogs clapping and cheering at the him pass.
People also cheered and said 'Long live our heroes!'

"The people of this city love its fire department" Said Iris looking at the people, happy to see the firefighters.

"They have nice trucks, clean and shiny" Said Jake.

"Can we move?" Asked Everest determined to find Marshall as soon as possible.
"Fiez sent us here to find Marshall, follow those fire trucks!" Said Everest annoyed by the dogs cheering at the firefighter dog, they make too much noise for her liking.

Jake started the engine and set off in pursuit of those fire trucks, he didn't understand the rush to find Marshall, he's in danger but you don't have to take too many risks.

Jake ran all the way down the main street before reaching a restricted area, looking up he noticed that a building was on fire.

"What's appened here?" Asked Everest curiosity but also frightened.

"A short circuit made something catch fire, the fire spread throughout the building" Said a police man. "Now please, stay away from this zone. It's dangerous"

The fire had also reached the upper floors. Firefighters used a ladder to reach the trapped people while a dog rescued a family of Bernese puppies.

"Thanks for having saved my puppies sir" hiccups the mother, happy to see her puppies in safety.

"Madam, it's my duty to protect people and dogs" Said the firefigher dog before to run in the building.

Before entering the burning building, the dog tripped over a water pipe causing it to collide with the wall near the stairs. "Sir, are you ok?" Said the lady. 
"Yes, im fine" Said the dog smiling, tripping reminded them of the good old days.

After a while the fire was extinguished, the heroic work of the firefighters was invited by many. Many reporters approached and asked questions, especially at the dog.

"What is it like to be a hero for this city?"

"How do you excel at rescues?"

"Does your heart belong to a lucky puppy?"
