word count: 1.2k Baileys POV: "Mattheo, please, let me explain, i promise you i can." she begs, tears streaming down her face. 'how? how did he find out?'
"no Bailey, i dont want to hear your excuse. is that all i am to you? a fucking bet? and here i thought you actually fucking loved me." Mattheo shouts, storming out of Baileys dorm.
Bailey, who was sitting on her bed, turns around, and lies face down, crying into her pillow. how could she have been so stupid? she knew she wouldve had to tell him about the bet at some point, but this is definitely not how she wanted it to go.
theres a knock on the door. "go away, im not in the fucking mood." she shouts, lifting her head from the pillow. the door opens. Bailey looks around and sees Pansy there.
"it was Draco, Draco told him, you know i would never have told him. oh Bailey, im so sorry. we shouldve never made the bet, it was a stupid decision." Pansy admits, walking over to Bailey and hugging her, tightly.
"why did he have to find out like this?" Bailey sobs into Pansys shoulder. "im such an awful person." she mumbles.
"no youre not Bailey. you just made an awful decision. this doesnt reflect you as a person. how were you supposed to know that 3 months after making a bet, youve fallen for Mattheo Riddle." Pansy comforts, patting Bailey on the back.
"i need to go after him. to explain. i cant let things end like this. i- i need to talk to him." Bailey says, wiping the tears from her face, and leaving the dorm. she walks down to the common room where Theodore is sat with Blaise. when Theo sees her, he gives her a dirty look.
"look, i know you hate my guts right now, and its totally deserved, but do you know where Mattheo went? i really have to talk to him." Bailey begs Theodore.
"you really hurt him Bailey, ill tell you where he is if you promise me that after you speak to him, youll leave him alone so he can mull it over." Theodore says. Bailey nods in response. "hes in the library."
"thank you, so much Theo." Bailey thanks, running to the library. when she gets there, she looks around for him. she sees him sitting at one of the tables, writing in the notebook she got him for christmas, just under a month ago. guilt fills her stomach. she walks up to him.
"please Mattheo. i know i don't deserve this, but please. please let me explain. you can hate me forever just let me explain and then ill leave you alone. i promise." Bailey begs, not caring whos listening in.
Mattheo looks up at her. "go on then." he whispers.
"i was refusing to accept that i liked you from 1st year on. you flirting with me made me feel that if i were to go out with you, you would just play me. i know i did exactly what i was scared of happening to me, to you and ive regretting making that bet everyday since i fell in love with you in the Astronomy Tower when we watched the stars. i love you. god i love you so much and it scares me Mattheo. ive never loved someone who wasnt family this much." Bailey rambles on. Mattheo nods.
"i just- need some time." he says.
"yeah of course, take as much as you need, i am so, so sorry about how ive hurt you." Bailey cries, tears rolling down her face. she turns to leave the library, not expecting Mattheo to stop her and he doesnt. he lets her walk out of the library.
Bailey goes off to find Draco. she finds him by the Black Lake. she walks up to him and shoves him.
"what the fuck Draco? i like him and you knew it! why the fuck would you do that, you fucking weasel?" Bailey shouts.
"because i fucking like you, dumbass." Draco shouts back.
"so you broke me and Mattheo up so you could have a chance with me? honestly youre a pathetic sod. stay the fuck away from me if you know whats good for you." Bailey says before storming off. shes so sick of Draco doing whatever the fuck he wants and thinks he can get away with.
*one month time skip* its the 14th of February, Mattheo still hasnt talked to Bailey. Pansy has been trying to cheer her up, to little success. Bailey has been holed up in her room all day, crying. she really misses Mattheo and for the last month, she has just felt so guilty for what she did. 'Valentines day is supposed to be a happy day for couples, but not for me, i dont deserve him.' Bailey thinks. Pansy comes into the dorm.
"Lee, get the fuck out of bed and get yourself cleaned up, right the fuck now." Pansy says, pulling Bailey off the bed, shoving her into the bathroom.
"what the fuck has gotten into you?" Bailey asks.
"Mattheo! he got flowers and chocolate in Hogsmede today! they have to be for you! go! clean yourself up, now!" Pansy encourages.
with new motivation, Bailey has a shower, does her hair, freshens up and gets out of Mattheos baggy hoodie and sweatpants that shes been wearing for the last week. she gets a skirt, jumper and one of her shirts.

she moves the necklace Mattheo got her for christmas on top of her outfit. she sits on the bed, reading. she hears a knock on the door, taking a deep breath, she calls; "who is it?"
"its- uh- me, Mattheo, can i come in?" he asks, clearly nervous.
"yeah, sure." Bailey says, trying to keep her voice cool, calm and collected, but to no avail- you can clearly hear the fear in her voice. Mattheo opens the door, walks in, holding chocolates and flowers.
"i- i got you these." he says, awkwardly handing them to her.
"you really shouldnt have, i don't deserve them, ive been such a shit girlfriend, i lied to you for 3 months." Bailey says, sadly. Bailey stands up, taking the flowers and chocolate over to her dresser and placing them on top. Mattheo sits on the bed, and as not to make him uncomfortable, Bailey stays standing.
"i realised even if this did start as a bet, i really do love and care about you Bailey. the last month has been the worst month this year because we havent been talking. i really miss you Bails. can we just go back to the way we were?" Mattheo asks, standing up and walking towards her.
"i would love nothing more. im really fucking sorry you had to find out that way, i was going to tell you, but Draco was just jealous and-" she begins.
"what? what do you mean Draco was jealous?" Mattheo questions.
"oh he told you so you'd get mad and probably break up with me so he could date me because he said he likes me." Bailey tells him.
"that fucking prick. he only told me because he wanted to steal you from me? what a fucking weasel." Mattheo complains.
conversation flows between them as though nothing ever happened. they end up lying on Baileys bed, cuddling, eating chocolate and watching a movie.
"thank you for giving me another chance. i promise, i wont break your heart." Bailey smiles.
"and i promise i wont break yours." Mattheo adds, also smiling.
