Chapter 22: Make a Promise

As the twins slept, they entered the dreamworld and woke up in the human world, surrounded by tents and they look around. Aldara holds Divoky's hand as they walk around, and there was silence except the gentle breeze that blew. They hear a noise of what sounded like a heavy whoosh, and they see something go above them and they follow it. Once they got there, they saw a human man and a large black creature with an elk skull, and the twins hide behind one of the tents nearby and watch. The man looks around and when he looks in the twins' direction, they cower back, hearing his footsteps walking towards them. The sound of his sword clanked against his armor and when the footsteps stopped, Divoky slowly peeks, seeing a shadow near them and he looks up as the man was now looking at them.

The twins slowly walk out from their hiding spot and the man kneels in front of them and he smiles, and the creature flies over and its glowing green eyes look at the young centaurs. Aldara gets closer, still holding Divoky's hand and looks at the man's eyes and the skull and tilts her head, "D-Daddy?..." The man chuckles and picks her up, and she touches his face and she gasps, "Daddy!" She hugs him and Divoky hugs the creature, "Dad, what happened to you?.." The Nowhere King looks at the boy, "Way before you two were born, this was what I used to be during the war." He looks at the man as he stands up, holding Aldara, "It's true..." The General picks up Divoky as well and the Nowhere King looks at both of them, "Are you afraid?" They shake their heads, and he makes a small snarl before flying off and the General follows him.

They somehow arrive at the enchanted forest and the General sets the twins down on an old gazebo, and sits next to them. Aldara looks at the creature and then at the General, "Daddy?... why did you hurt people?..." He looks down, and sighs, "I was full of my own pride, and it caused me to hurt those who trusted me... all I was doing truly was harming myself... and endless war that was all for nothing..." Aldara looks at the ground, "Why did that griffontaur hurt us? Why did she hurt you?..." The General pets her hair, "I hurt her somehow, and now she wants to hurt you both to get back at me..." She holds his hand, and he stands up, and he follows the Nowhere King through the woods, and the twins run after him, "Dad wait!" They run through the trees, avoiding low branches, trying to catch up and they arrive at a lake, and now Elk was back in his centaur form and he turns to the twins, and sits down, opening his arms and they run to him, hugging him tight.

Divoky looks up at him, "Dad.... what are you afraid of?..." Elk moves his son's bangs and holds them close, "Losing the people I love and care for..." Aldara wipes his tears, "Do you regret what you did in the past?..." He nods, "And I don't want either of you to be put through what I went through... To become what I was... a monster." "No dad, you're not a monster." Aldara hugs him tight, tears falling down her face, "Don't say that..." Divoky nuzzles him and Elk makes the twins look at him, "I want you both to promise me something okay?..." They nod and he sets them down, "Promise me you'll protect each other. Protect mommy... don't ever lose hope, okay?..." The twins at each other, then turn back to Elk, nodding and Divoky lays next to Elk, "Are you gonna come back to us like you said?..." 

Elk smiles, and he nods, "Of course... it's just.. going to take me some time." He opens his shirt a little, the sword wound still there, and Aldara touches it gently, "I... I tried to stop the bleeding..." "It's not your fault, sweetheart..." She lays beside Divoky and Elk holds them close and they all asleep again and Elk kisses their foreheads, "Stay strong, my young ones... No matter where I am, I'm always going to be here for you. Nothing is going to stop me from watching over you." He gently moves their hair out their faces, watching them sleep, and he smiles, a tear rolling down his cheek, "I promise I'll come back. Take care of each other and mommy..."
