Chapter 3: Back Home

Elk and Adalie walk home together, and Elk looks at Adalie and she was carrying a couple stuff on her back, "You sure you can carry that? I don't want you to feel overworked." Adalie looks at him unamused, "I'm fine honey. I can manage." She holds his hand and they get to the rift opening and go through and then Elk freezes when they get halfway through, starting to get flashbacks and Adalie looks at him, "Elk?" He stands in place, spacing out and Adalie walks over to him, seeing him shaking a bit, "Honey?" She touches his cheek and he snaps out of spacing out and he looks at her, "Sorry, I was just.." She hugs him, giving him comfort, "You're alright. It's okay. It's in the past." "I just...I was..." Adalie holds Elk's hand and they walk out together and continue.

Once they got back to village, Emilia and Josiah were there to greet them, and Emilia runs to them, "There they are! Oh how was the trip? What did you two see?" She hugs them both and Josiah walks over and hugs them as well. Elk smiles, "The trip was fun. It was nice to seeing a lot of things." Adalie nods, "We even brought a couple souvenirs too." Emilia smiles, "Oooo, well come on inside! Tell us all about it." They go inside their cottage and all sit at the table together, chatting and telling about the trip and what's been going on. They talked for hours until it became evening and Emilia looks out the window, "Oh dear, I should start dinner." She gets up and starts cooking and Josiah helps her. Josiah hums, "So, one more thing. What's the food like in the human world?" 

Elk shrugs, "It's alright. Not as good as your cooking but it's okay to eat." Josiah chuckles and he notices Adalie looking a little pale, "You alright pumpkin?" He touches her shoulder and Adalie nods, "I just...maybe some water?" He nods and gets her a glass of water and she drinks it slowly and Josiah looks at her, "Is everything okay?" He looks at Elk and he looks at Adalie, "Well, we actually have a little...announcement to make." Emilia's ear perk and she quickly gets back to them, "What is it? What's going on?" She and Josiah sit and Elk holds Adalie's hand, "Well, we found out this morning and-" Adalie smiles, "We're, um...we're having a baby." Josiah's eyes widen and Emilia gets filled with joy, "OH MY GOODNESS! Oh, honey, they're going to be parents!" She hugs Adalie and Elk tight and close, laughing with glee and Josiah was in shock, "Wow! I can't believe it, ha! That's incredible, congratulations!" They smile and there was a sizzle on the stove and Emilia looks, "OH MY!" She quickly turns the heat down and stirs the soup, chuckling, "We are so happy for you two."

Adalie smiles, "Yeah we're happy as well." Josiah hugs his daughter and his son in law, "That means we're gonna be grandparents! Our first grandkid!" He laughs with joy and helps Emilia serve everyone and they all eat together. When the sun had set, Adalie and Elk were in Adalie's old cottage, and laid on the bed together. She hums softly and Elk was staring at the ceiling and she holds his hand, "You alright?" He nods, "Yeah just thinking." He turns to his side and looks at her, "I still can't believe we're going to be parents. I'm so excited...just...still worried about everything." She kisses his nose, making him chuckle and snuggles close, "I'm excited. And don't worry, everything is going to be alright."
