Back in Centaurworld, it was a rainy night. Lightning flashes in the clouds above as rain was pouring down, and in the field, the raindrops tapped on the window of the cottage, Elk and Adalie both asleep. The rain gets a bit louder until thunder crashes, and Elk bolts up, panting, then hears the twins crying. Elk turns his head to their room door, "The thunder must've scared them awake...Maybe I can try to calm them down." He gets out of bed and Adalie wakes up and lifts her head, "I'll help." She starts getting up and Elk shakes his head, "I got it. I got it. I can do it." She raises an eyebrow, "Are you sure?" He nods, backing to the kid's room, "I can do it. You go back to sleep, I'll take care of them." Adalie sighs, "Alright then." She lays back down and Elk goes to the twins' crib and picks them both up and holds them.
"Shhhh shhhh it's alright. Did the thunder scare you both?" He gently bounces them, trying to calm them down, but they continued to cry. Elk's ears lower and he lays on the ground, holding the twins and he sighs, holding his offspring close to him, the sound of their cries caused his eyes to water as well. Elk tries to think of something, then he looks at the twins, and starts to sing a lullaby to them.
"Hush now...there's no need to feel afraid...
I'm here to shelter you from the pain...
Wipe the tears away from your eyes...
Oh how it pains me to seeing you cry...
I promise that you are safe, you don't need to fear
You are alright for I am here..."
The twins begin calming down and they begin to close their eyes. They nuzzle their heads close to his chest, making small baby noises as they start drifting off to sleep. Elk smiles and stands back up carefully and continues singing to them.
"Quiet and clear your tears away...
I'm here, from the darkest of nights until day...
I won't ever leave your side...
It's alright, there is no need to cry...
You'll be okay, every day of the year...
You're alright...I am here..."
He carefully places the twins back in their crib, seeing that they had fallen back to sleep. He smiles, resting his head gently on the crib watching them. He sighs in relief and yawns, "Sleep well my young ones." He gently kisses each of their foreheads and quietly sneaks out the room and gets back in bed with Adalie and lays down. Adalie wraps her arms around him, and nuzzles his back, "I didn't know you could sing like that." Elk smiles, his eyes feeling heavy, "It's been a while since I've have sung something." She scoots closer to him and nuzzles him, "See? You're doing great. You're a great dad." Elk smiled when he heard her say that and he closes his eyes, "I guess I am." They both fall asleep, and the twins sleep soundly in their crib.
