Chapter 15: Attack on Board

Back at Horse's boat as they were gliding through the waters, Adalie sits with the twins as she hears Waterbaby talking with Horse and Rider in another room and she looks at Elk who was looking out a window. She stands up and touches his shoulder, "You alright?" He nods,  "Just worried..." She lays her head on his arm and he holds her close and he turns to look at the twins as they play with their toys, "I won't let her hurt them...I can't..." Adalie touches his cheek, "I know...Elk, you're a great father, I can see it in you." She nuzzles her nose against his, making him chuckle and she smiles, "There's that smile." She kisses him and she joins the twins, sitting down with them. Aldara looks at her father and she holds his hand and gently pulls him, "Come on daddy, play with us." He smiles and he sits down with them and Waterbaby, Horse and Rider come out the room and Waterbaby claps her hands, taking a deep breath to speak.

"Okay, so the centaur shaman told us everything that happened. I don't know how Keres survived, or any of those three hooligans survived those crushing rocks. The boulders that fell on them were big enough to break their skulls. When it came on you, it wasn't as bad, just gave you a broken leg and dislocated shoulder." Elk looks down, "I don't know either...now she's wanting to take my children away from us..." He hugs the twins and Horse sits next to him, "She was probably trying to lure you into a trap, just to do something to you and still keep your kids...who knows what she was planning." The thought of losing the twins scared Elk and his ears fold back, until there was a sudden shake on the boat and everyone froze.

Rider gets her sword out, "Something's outside." Horse looks through the window, "Maybe it's Wammawink and the herd...or maybe-AH!" Horse jumps back when Adron pokes his head into the window, "PEEK A BOO!!" He jumps inside the boat and Rider runs to him and she and him fight with their blades and then Keres throws a smoke bomb and everyone was blinded by the smoke. Divoky and Aldara run around in fear, then get snatched up and placed into a basket, and they yell for help, "MOM! DAD! WHERE ARE YOU?!" Elk and Adalie cough and Elk's ears twitch when he hears the twins' screams, and he sees Keres's shadow leaving the boat and taking flight. He runs out and tries to grab her but falls into the water and he hears Keres laugh.

"Look at you! If you want to see your children alive, meet me at the place where it all started for you. Inside the portal. Don't be late!" She cackles and flies away, and Adron runs after her and she catches him from a high rock and he climbs on their back and they fly. Elk scrambles to his feet and goes after them and Adalie looks through, the smoke clearing out, "ELK! WAIT!" She runs after him. Once she caught up to him, she grabs his arm, "Elk!" He rears back, panting, "She has the kids! I'm not going to stand around and just let her take them." He runs off and Adalie follows, "Where would she be taking them anyway?" Elk pants, not looking back at her, "Inside the portal of the rift...where it all happened for me..."
