The sunlight shines through the window, shining in Elk's face and he moans, "Mm." He stretches and thought he had put his arm where he though was Adalie, but it was her pillow instead. He opens his eyes and sits up quickly, "Adalie?" He looks around the cottage before leaving and looks around, "Adalie?" He bumps into Josiah who was panting, "There you are." "Where's Adalie? Did she wake up early or something?" Emilia runs over, "She went into labor in the middle of the night." Elk's eyes widen, "What? But it's two months early!" "Tell that to your baby!" He runs to search for the delivery tent and Emilia stops him, "Elk they probably won't let you inside." He pants and they take him nearby the tent and wait patiently for any of the nurses to get them. Elk paces back and forth, feeling nervous and worried, "Why didn't she wake me up? I would've helped...unless she knew about the tent's size, but...I would've wanted to know if our baby was coming..."
Hours passed, and Adalie's parents and Elk was very worried that something happened. Elk continues pacing, "Is this normal for it to take this long? It's the afternoon, and we haven't had any updates...I hope she and the baby are okay..." Josiah pats his back, "I'm sure it's going well, I mean a baby doesn't just pop out in a snap, it takes a long time." Emilia lifts her head, "One of the nurses are coming." The nurse centaur trots over to them and she walks forward, "You are Adalie's family correct?" They nod and Elk looks at the nurse, "Is everything okay? Is Adalie and the baby okay? Please tell me." The nurse calms him, Everything went well. Adalie is okay, she's getting taken to a bigger tent, and your babies are alright as well. They're strong and healthy."
Elk sighs in relief, "Thank goodness...Wait, you did you say baby or babies?" "Babies." Everyone's eye widen and Emilia speaks, "There was more than one?" The nurse nods, "Mhm. Twins, which is very uncommon for a centaur to have twins, but they are both healthy and strong, but sorta...small, due to them being born two months early." Emilia and Josiah were still in a bit of shock and Elk clears his throat, "Can...Can I see her?" The nurse nods and takes him to Adalie, and he sees her resting in the bed, and he walks over to her and whispers, "Hey." Adalie opens her eyes and smiles, "Hey...look I'm sorry I didn't wake you up." Elk touches her cheek and kisses her forehead, "It's fine...twins...we had twins."
She nods, "Yep. We had twins. A baby boy and baby girl." He gently moves her hair back, "How are you feeling?" "Exhausted and tired..." Adalie's eyes felt heavy and she closes them to sleep and Elk smiles, adjusting the blanket the cover her up, and a nurse walks in holding a basket-like cradle and whispers, "Would you like to see your children as well?" He nods and quietly gets up and walks over to the cradle, peering inside. The nurse quietly leaves, leaving Elk with the cradle and he reaches inside of it. There were small movements under the blanket and he carefully lifts it and his eyes widen when he saw two small centaurs, a baby boy and a baby girl, in the cradle and a smile forms on his face as he watches them sleep soundly.
Elk felt his eyes water and he gently touches the girl's cheek, hearing a small squeak come from her and he carefully picks her up, whispering, "Look at you, princess." The baby girl makes baby noise before opening her eyes and Elk sees that she shared the same eye color as him and he cradles her, "Aren't you a sweetheart?" The baby rubs her eyes, yawning, "Alright I'll let you go back to sleep." Elk carefully places her back and picks up the baby boy, and holds him, "So small....and so fragile..." The baby boy was moving his hooves a bit as he slept and gets placed back in the cradle, Elk's tail wiggling with happiness and tears fall down his face, "I don't know if you two can hear me or understand what I'm saying, but I promise...I won't let anything happen to you, I would never do anything to put you both in danger...and I'll be the best father you two could ever have. " He touches their small cheeks, and they both stretch a bit, moving about and Elk smiles as he watches his offspring sleep.
