Chapter 18: Run Away

They fight the minotaurs and the woman finds a piece of broken glass and uses it to cut the binds around her wrists, then unties her ankles. She sneaks the keys from the weapon table while Keres and the minotaurs were distracted, and she runs to the cages the twins were in and unlocks it quickly. They open the door and she unlocks Adalie's, then goes to her parents and releases them. There was a yell and Adron runs at her, full speed and she uses her magic to blast him back, then grabs a sword from the table and the blades collide. The woman turns her back to Adalie, "Run back to the rift! NOW!"  Adalie nods and she picks up the twins, her and her parents running as fast as they could to the rift. Keres sees them and she gets two minotaurs to go after them and she growls, "Don't let them get away!" They run to the woods after Adalie and her family as they were running to the rift, and pass near the human village. 

Aldara looks over he mother's shoulder, shaking as she watches the undead minotaurs charging after them. She looks around, seeing if there was something that can slow them down and she finds large tree. She lifts her hand, trying to concentrate, "Mmph...come on." Divoky holds her other hand and they try together, and then to their very eyes, black ooze wraps itself around the tree and makes it fall with a green flash, falling on top of the minotaurs. The twins look in shock as their mother continues running with them, her parents in front of her and they eventually get to the portal and go through. They all stop to catch their breath when they realize they weren't followed anymore and Divoky looks at the center, "Where did dad go?..."

Everyone looks where Elk's body once was, only to find the puddle of blood and the twins go to it and sit there. Adalie walks to them and hugs them both, "I know....I miss him too..." Deep in her mind, she didn't know if she could bring him back to life again like she did the first time. Would it even work?  She sighs and holds her children as they look at the blood and Emilia walks over, "Do we keep going or should we wait?" Adalie shakes her head, "I don't know. She just said get to the rift. I feel like we should wait for them." Josiah nods, "I'll stand out and watch for them just in case." He walks out the portal and waits for the others, while Adalie and Emilia stay inside. 

Aldara reaches to touch the blood but Adalie holds her hand, "No sweetie. Don't do that." She holds her daughter and wipes her tears, "It's okay..." "Why did that centaur hurt us?... What did we do to her?" Adalie looks at Divoky and pets his hair, "Honey...sometimes people hold a grudge for so long, they will do bad things... she didn't like that your father moved on, and she wanted to hurt him.... and now the damage is done..." Aldara looks up at her mother, "Did she know him somehow?" "She was in his army when your father was the Nowhere King...." The twins stay close to her and they all wait patiently for someone.

Back at the camp, Horse gets a good distance away from Adron, and Rider joins her, "What do we do? There's gotta be something." Her eyes widen when she sees Keres and gets a pla, "Horse, can you still do that backstory magic?" Horse nods, 'Yeah why?" Rider kneels and pulls Horse close, pointing at Keres, "Do you think, if she stays still long enough, can you run at full speed and get her to freeze long enough and I wait for you to get out and we escape all together?" Horse looks at the griffontaur grabbing for her sword, and nods, "Yeah. But can you hold her and I'll get at a far distance to charge?" Rider nods and she runs to Keres and grabs her arms, making her face Horse, holding her still, and Horse gets a few feet away, looking at her target, "Let's see what your deal is." She gets in position and Rider gives her a signal, then Horse takes a step back and begins charging.
