     "Shizu?!" I yelled.

She was still breathing but I could feel her life force slowly leaving her body. My eyes widened, making me realize that she only lived this long because of Ifrit. Now that it was gone, how was she going to survive. I clenched my jaw together as I held her in my arms. My body shook over hers as I felt tears start to well up in my eyes. I wasn't sure of Tenseiga would work in this world, let alone if she still wanted to live. My throat tightened as I rubbed my forehead against hers. I didn't want to lose a friend. We only knew each other for a short time but it felt like I knew her all my life. She was a kindred spirit.

I felt something drape over my body, making me look up. Sesshomaru was there with a sad frown upon his face. He knelt down beside me, gently cupping my cheek. He realized what I had figured out.

"I'm sorry I didn't make it." He whispered to me.

"She's faintly here." I said, my throat tightening. "Let's go and put her on a cot to rest."

He gently picked her up from my arms, making me notice his bare chest. I looked down to find myself wearing his royal haori. That and I'm also almost naked. I picked up the mask next to her and stood up along side my mate. We slowly walked to the village. My heart felt heavy as I looked at her unconscious form. When we got to the medic tent, we gently placed her down. I had Sesshomaru and Ranga stay outside the tent. I removed her outer outfit so she was comfortable in her night shirt. I just draped the blanket onto her when she opened her eyes and weakly looked at me.

"Kagome?" She weakly whispered. I sat down on the bed next to her, looking at her. I wrapped the haori around the tightly. "Thank you. I nearly...killed someone I cared about again. With my own hands..." A moment of silence hung over us. "Hey, Kagome...would you mind listening?"

"You shouldn't talk too much..." I weakly smiled. She turned her head to me, her sad eyes matching that sad smile.

"I want people to remember my story...and know that I lived." She pleaded.

"What if we have a way to save you?" I asked. She shook her head.

"No leave it be. I lived long enough." She smiled.

"All right." I nodded to her.

So Shizu told me what happened, though her recollection was vague. She spoke of how Ifrit possessed her after she was summoned, and how she ended up killing her friend...and...

"After Pirino died, I continued to serve the Demon Lord as his closest aide. But then I met..."

     "Met who?" I softly asked.

"The hero." She said as she closed her eyes.

     "Hero?" I tilted my head.

"Yes...The Hero." She said. "There was a battle...and the Demon Lord abandoned his castle, leaving me behind as rear guard. Was it the will of the fire spirit Ifrit, or was it my own violation? I'm still not sure. I thought I'd be killed instantly...but then she spoke to me. She asked me why I was there, how I had stayed alive. I was a Majin, and she believed everything I said. She told me, "it's all right now." My emotions came back to me. Then the hero took me in..." She looked for the mask I placed above her head. "She was the one who gave me that mask. She said it would boost my magic resistance and help suppress Ifrit, the spirit dwelling within me." She went to reach for it.

"Hold on a sec." I said as I leaned over and grabbed it gently for her. She turned around and laid back down. I placed it upon her chest, she then placed her hand on it, stroking it.
