"And that's why I'm going to become a Demon Lord."
Everyone was shocked into silence. They stared at me in disbelief, while I heard Gabiru's loud mouth lackeys outside.
"What? Lady Kagome's going to be a Demon Lord?!" One shouted. One shushed him. "Sorry."
"That army heading here from the Kingdom of Falmuth... I'm going to use ten thousand of them as nourishment to evolve into a Demon Lord. The chance of Sesshomaru and the others being resurrected is a whole 3%." Everyone was shocked, even the ones from the other side of the windows.
"But Kagome...." Shuna started but I cut her off.
"Now, hang on. I'm sure you have questions and things you'd like to say, but hear me out until the end first." I looked to her.
"All right." Shuna nodded.
"As you know, me and my pack came from the other world because of the sacred jewel. At first it was just me and my son, we were alone..." I felt my throat tighten. "But even then, we found friends... allies and family. That's all of you." I smiled at them. "You are all my family. You're that important to me. I said I liked humans and made the rule that we wouldn't attack them because I am human. That's why I hoped to mingle with humans and get along with them... Regretting that now won't erase what's happened, but it was never my intention to hurt you guys because of it. If I had come back sooner, instead of staying so long in Engrassia..." I lowered my head, my hand clenching.
"No, that's no true." Shuna commented. "We are to blame for relying too heavily on you to protect us. This tragedy was the result of that."
"My younger sister said it before I could." Benimaru added. "I'm a poor excuse for an older brother, a father and a mate. What happened here made me painfully aware of this. When the barrier cut off communication with you, the constant sense that we were all powerful vanished. In my hear, I felt the panic of losing the one I had relied upon. You asked me to look after the place in your absence, but the fault for failing to stop this tragedy before it happened is mine."
Rigur stood up and slammed his hands down on the table. "Wait Benimaru! If that's the case, it was my fault as the head of guard! The responsibility is mine!"
"No." Geld placed a hand to his head. "I should have kept a sharper eye on the first ones to use that road.
"Huh?" I arched a brow.
"It's my fault." Gobta said, shaking in the chair. "I might have egged the bad guys on too much..."
"You couldn't help that." Rigur sighed.
"Wait! Wait! Wait just a mintue!" I shouted, slamming my hand to the table. "I'm the one who was too careless! I put my own feelings first, and this is what happened. All the blame falls on me." I lowered my head in a bowing manner. "I'm really sorry."
"Kagome..." Shuna whispered.
Ranga whimpered.
"Lady Kagome." Hakurou softly spoke. "The fact that you prioritized your own feelings is not the problem in the slightest. This happened because we all let our guard down, and because we were all weak. It was our own negligence that allowed those scoundrels to have their way." He looked to everyone. "Am I right, all of you?!"
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"You guys..." I slightly frowned, my heart melting.
"Daughter." Rigurd smiled at me. "You are our one and only leader. Whether you befriend humans or become a Demon Lord, your wishes are the path we must follow."
