through the thin walls of the hope's peak academy dorm rooms, kayama leah and togami byakuya were neighbors. their beds were ironically placed on each other's walls, being able to hear each other's words and really anything that went on in the room.
although they were just acquaintances, someone was always starting a conversation through the walls.
"hey, byakuya," kayama had started.
"yeah?"
"do you ever hate someone so much that you reply to them when they start a conversation through the walls?"
"yes. mainly because you're hard to ignore. music playing, singing, yelling, all of it."
"oh. but why do you respond?"
"i just said, because you're hard to ignore."
"why? is it because i'm irresistible?"
"tch. tough words for a cyclist."
"at least i don't sit around and read all day. plus, i know you love me so much that after every conversation we have you go into the bathroom and-"
"hush it, leah."
everyone was on a first name basis.
"i mean, come on byakuya, it's been a little over a year and you're too scared to talk to me outside of the walls. "
"i'm not scared, i just don't want to."
"i bet every time you look at me you feel like going back into your room and-"
"i said hush it. get your head out of the gutter."
"whatever. you're a fun wrecker."
-
kayama loved to play music. the same exact songs. togami just listened and tried to ignore her, but it was a bit impossible.
genuinely, he had began to learn the words to her songs.
kayama started playing one of her favorite songs.
"leah, then that goddamn song off."
"no."
"fly me to the moon.. and let me play among the stars.."
"i said stop with the song."
"no. my hand is right above my bed, about a foot away from the wall. now you put your hand there."
togami sighed and did as kayama asked.
"you are all i long for.. all i worship and adore.."
in fact, togami enjoyed kayama's voice, yet he didn't want to admit it. a small smile crept on his face as he listens to kayama through the paper thin walls, "holding" her hand.
"in other words.. i love you..."
"sure."
"it's the song, dumbass. it's platonic."
"sure, singing a romantic jazz song through the walls is platonic."
"it is. now can you just bolt through the wall and hand me my remote? i don't feel like getting up to get it."
"but, that'd leave a huge hole in the wall."
"so? we'd actually be able to hold hands when the one line starts."
"i'm not breaking the wall to get your stupid remote, leah. you get up and get it."
"it would be nice to have a tall and kind of handsome man to do something for me, but i guess i'll do it myself."
the words hit togami like a truck.
kind of handsome?
only kind of?
"your thoughts are incorrect, it's a tall and handsome man."
"now i'm gonna correct you the next time you compliment me."
by then, it was already 11:00 P.M; an hour after nighttime.
"well, i'm tired. i'm going to bed. good night, byakuya."
"good night, leah."
the words still rang in togami's ears.
kind of handsome.
kayama felt happy that togami had actually said good night back.
good night, leah.
-
kayama smiled in bed.
she was next to him, the man who'd said that to her.
byakuya togami.
