he was always on time to be home. togami knew that kayama awaited his arrival, and he was loyal -- he never stayed out.

but tonight, he couldn't come home. he had to be at an overnight meeting for some money thing.

- new message from: byakuya <3 -

byakuya <3: hey l, i have to work late tonight. i don't know exactly when i'll be back.

leah: before bedtime?

byakuya: probably not. sorry leah :(

leah: oh, okay.

kayama sighed and fell down on the couch. it was 5;30, togami should've been back by then. instead of sulking, she flipped through the channels on tv, seeing if any thing good was on. she found the right show, and watched it for a few hours before having a small dinner of a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. although she had wished togami was there, she just ate her sandwich and looked through her text with him, which was a good time passer.

she found the first text she ever sent him.

"hi, byakuya."

she stared at the text, and then his respoonce; "is this leah?"

when she finished her dinner, she went back to the tv. by this time, she had a headache; she hadn't said a word, other than the slight commentary about her shows. and the immense amount of screen time that she'd been getting was taking a toll on her eyes, too. so, she put on her glasses to refrain from any further strain.

the phone rang. it was togami.

"hi byakuya!!" kayama said happily.

"hey l. break time, just wanted to make sure you're surviving," togami replied.

"i'm okay. how about you?"

"horrible. this is so unbelievably idiotic, i might just pass out."

"and you have to be there? you can't come home?"

"strict orders. sorry, love. but hey, you wanna know something funny?"

"sure! why not?"

"i told off the chairman of the meeting."

"how!?"

"well, he got off topic, talking about his wife or something, and then everyone got off task, except me. they all were taking about their wives, and then they saw me doing whatever. chairman asks, 'well gee, togami. guess you don't have one!' of course, i retorted by saying, 'i do.' doesn't believe me, and then he told me to show him a picture. i pulled out my phone, and then he snapped into his regular self for a second and told me to put it away. and then i shot back something like, 'you basically asked me to pull out my phone, so why can't i?' then he let me pull out my phone after an eye roll, and he said you looked like my little sister," togami said fastly.

"what picture did you show him?" kayama asked."

"that one we took from your birthday."

"where we went with noria?"

"yeah, that place."

kayama heard a slight yelling in the background. togami must've been on speaker, because it sounded like, "togami, get off the phone with your little sister, wife, whatever she is, we're starting".

"i've got to go, leah."

"bye, byakuya. love you."

"see you. i love you too."

togami hung up and kayama threw her phone down next to her.

it was nice to hear his voice, but she couldn't see him physically.

9:00 PM.

9:30 PM.

10:00 PM.

nothing.

nothing.

and still nothing.

"great, he's not coming home until the crack of dawn," kayama yelled.

she wasn't mad at him; she was mad at whatever manner was so important that the chairman forced togami to stay back. she stomped up the stairs to the third floor of the manor, up to her and togami's room.

by 10:30, she still couldn't sleep. it hadn't been the same without him.

everything, she tried. sitting on her phone. playing music. simply shutting her eyes. nothing worked.

11:00, still nothing. she scoffed into the pillow and cursed.

but then, a smart idea popped into her head. "if i just hold onto one of his pillows, it'll be like he's here!"

ironically enough, she fell asleep fairly quickly after that.

2:30 AM.

she woke up and was thirsty. there was no water on her bedside table. so, she got up and went to the kitchen.

the light was on.

"must've forgotten to turn it off," she quietly said.

"but i know i did..." she said wearily.

"eh, maybe i didn't."

she flipped off the light and went back upstairs.

kayama went back on her phone for another 30 minutes or so, and went back to bed.

9:00 AM.

"shoot!" she said while checking the time. "i think i have a meeting with aoi today..."

- new message from: aoi -

aoi: i have to canel, sorry leah :(( i randomly got sick out of no where last night!!

leah: oh, it's okay. i hope you feel better!

aoi: thanks!

kayama got dressed and did her regular morning routine.

"kitchen light again," she murmured.

"hm?" a familiar voice asked.

she turned to face the voice. and, it was;

"byakuya!!" kayama softly yelled while basically flying onto togami.

"i was gone for a day, not a week," he said calmly while reciprocating her hug.

"still, i didn't like it. i had a hard time sleeping," she replied admittedly. "what time did you get home?"

"probably 2:15. i was in the kitchen at about 2:30, bam. light goes off, along with the water."

"oh, sorry, that was me. i didn't see or hear you.."

"it's okay. hey, don't you have somewhere to go today?"

"cancelled."

"cool, but bad."

"that doesn't make any sense."

"cool, i get to hang out with you. bad, your plans are cancelled."

"oh, that makes sense."

"here, i made breakfast. honestly, it's not the best, but it's worth a shot," togami sighed.

"thanks, byakuya."
